Camaro's in the Busch Series
Just read this. First they have to build it but I think it would add to the racing.

"NASCAR continues to look for a way to differentiate the Busch Series from the premiere Nextel Cup Series, in answer to critics who suggest Busch has become Cup Lite, with near-identical cars and a plethora of invading Nextel Cup drivers. One possible way: Change the Busch Series cars from sedans to the manufacturers' "pony" cars -- the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger and Toyota Solara. Sound farfetched? It isn't. "

I'm all for it but I'd rather watch the same cars in the Speed GT and Trans Am series.

I think it's a great idea and a fantastic way to promote that car to the NASCAR fan base. I agree with you, I'd rather watch those cars road-racing, but I'm guessing that the average NASCAR fan isn't watching that kind of racing that much.

BTW, how much does it suck that the T/A series is gone? I am hoping the SCCA (which owns the name) ressurects it as something more like the original intent. Production based cars, not the tube chassis beasts that it had evolved into.

Do you really think the average NASCAR fan is complaing about anything? Seems the fans are generally die-hards, and they'll watch it even if it were a bunch of FWD Cobalts and Focuses running around in circles at 200mph.

It may bring a few more fans over, but I can't say it would make me any more interested. To me, the Busch series is probably the least interesting race series out there.

And it totally sucks the TA series is gone. I'm guessing the GT series is being pushed more (I'm assuming it's still around) since those seem to resemble production cars more than anything else. Perhaps the TA series could be brought back and have the same specs as the GT series but run the heavier faster cars?

No, I don't think the nascar fans are complaining. I think the auto manufacturers are. Why promote the same cars on Saturday and Sunday when you can promote the Mustang, Camaro, Chally on Saturday and the Charger, Fusion and Monte Carlo on Sunday.

I think it's a great ideal it would be like the old Bush series.

It would also stop some of the complaining about the Nextel drivers getting an advantage by driving in both races. I know the Busch cars have slightly different requirements (spoiler height is the fist to mind) but totally different cars makes for a greater disparity and less advantage for the crossover guys.

Believe me, the average NASCAR fan complains about everything NASCAR does nowadays. You don't hear Pedro Martinez pitching for the Durham Bulls to make a little extra coin. Tha's one of the reasons it is so hard for other drivers to break into the sport. The lack of opportunity coupled with the enormous amount of money the driver needs to bring to the table. They now have seminars you can pay for that will best explain how to get your kid into racing; starting as young as 5 years old.
The list of things to complain about is long and getting longer everyday. Try www.jayski.com.

This will only work if they allow the cars their own "identity". In the Nextel series, Nascar is already considering going to a common body and only allowing the teams to apply the decals (headlights, grill, taillights) for their particular manufacturer. I understand they want to make it as fair as possible, but Nascar has to realize that without a clear identity for the cars, there really isn't any reason for the manufacturers to be involved.

The Car of Tomorrow (COT) is a common car. They will phase it in the 07 season. Just add decals. But they say the racing will be great.

This is what it will look like. http://www.jayski.com/schemes/2006/COT.htm

Notice the wing instead of the spoiler. That has been one of the most discussed aspects of the car. Some team owners say there is a bigger oppurtunity for cheating compared to the spoiler.

A splitter as well, interesting.

I don't dig it. I think they ought to make the teams run cars that are as close to the OE body shape as possible and OE based engines (Carbed LS for chevy, carbed mod motor for Ford, and carbed hemi for dodge) then apply weight penalties to even things out. Dirty the cars up and take away downforce and the drivers will have to slow down. I think that would improve safety, improve racing and put the onus more heavilly on the driver.

i can tell you as i am a huge nascar fan. Never got into the road racing stuff. When they're at watkins glenn or that other road race track i watch but not with the passion as seeing talladega. I think the COT is going to hurt the sport. Not seeing a monte carlo or focus or whatever else. Plus Toyota coming in on the good ol boys. The other post had it right. If you got the money we got the space. Nascar is the start of all the racing you see on tv today. There would still be racing on tv but not with the fan base it has now. Nascar has the largest and fastest growing fan base. Combine baseball football and basket ball and Nascar still is bigger in the number of fans. I like the idea of putting the mustang, camaro, challenger (please leave the foreign jobs out of it they have the rolex, and every other venue) and such in Busch. Bring back the days of when you race on sunday sell on monday. I watch because i love racing and i get into rooting for my fav driver (dale jr). If the big company manufacturers fall out it is Nascars fault for doing this stupid COT.
