I read somewhere that the CTS-V accesory package seems to work best in a 1st Gen. I don't know how true that is or isnt.

In your experience which package works best?
What did it cost to put it together?

If you are going to run air conditioning then you will have to worry about the compressor, as it sits really low on the right side of the engine (f-body setup). If you are not going to have air conditioning then just use an f-body setup. Works fine with any motor mounts and motor mount adaptor plates.

I recently picked up an f-body LS1 short block with no accessories except the crank and water pump pulley, so I have been trying to decide which way to approach this.

From my research I have learned that the corvette system sits closest to the block, the f-body sits out a bit further and the truck accessories sit out the farthest from the engine. So you must use the entire system from one particular vehicle (that is if you want to actually put a belt on it!). I have not read anything or seen any pictures of the GTO or Cadillac systems, so that is certainly worth a look.

It looks to me like the frame must be notched to get an A/C compressor to fit in the stock f-body/corvette location, I have been looking around the classifieds on the ls1 forums hoping to pick up a cheap a/c compressor and bracket just to bolt it on and see how it fits.

The only complete accessory system I have seen for sale was on ebay, it came from a corvette and I think the guy wanted $600 for it and it did not include any A/C components.

Billet Specialties now has a true-track system for LS1s...

I run f-body systems on my cars.. they are simple and the parts are plentiful and cheap.. then again I don't run AC.

True,

You owe yourself a phone call or a visit to Wegner's web site. They have several options for you, including a serpentine setup with A/C.

Ya know. I called them a week or so ago. Dropped your name, but they were more than a little dismissive. Maybe I got the wrong guy.

Does anyone have a link to the ls1 tru trac stuff? I searched the billet specialties site and I do not see it listed. All I came up with was this

Interesting.

I wonder if that AC location will clear the K-member w/o hacking?

Not on a 1st gen it won't. The TrueTrac looks more like a dress up kit since it uses the factory crank, water and A/C locations. What is with the 4 idler pulleys?

I dunno, seems complicated. Though I'll bet belt tension is very consistant.

Thanks for the link Steve. BTW, where do you normally source your f-body accessories? I see that gmpartsdirect.com has an entire accessory system for the gen1 sbc, but I have yet to see a similar kit (all OEM stuff) for the lsx.

Thanks

I buy all my GM engine parts and such from www.smcperformance.com (http://www.smcperformance.com)

Shaun Carter is the man! :)

Best prices I have found and he sometimes has used or surplus parts..
