Here is mine. No 17's yet...

www.lt1nova.com (http://www.lt1nova.com) It needs to be updated badly.

I would like to add a pro-touring Nova's links page to my website so if you list yours in this thread I will probably add it to the list. Let me know if you do not want me to.

The corrected link for boosttoy's site is www.hometown.aol.com/boosttoy

Here is a couple links to pics of my car! Don't know how to resize them to fit on the main page sorry! The wheels are Boyd Coddington Smoothie II's, and I am lifting the car back up in the front. I cut the Hotchkis springs (already 2" lowering spring) a little to much so I had to get new ones. They are here, just waiting for me to get down with the wiring harness and sound deadener!

Yeah i beefed up the stock control arm. Still not to happy I wanted to go lower in the front but the shocks bottom out if i go lower than it is. The rear is still the stock mono leaf no blocks. I am planning on adding a 9 in in back might quadra link it or do some sort of 4 link.

I haven't posted here in about 4 months, so I thought I would up post a few pics to show my progress. It's actually been a few steps forward and a couple steps back. Here goes:

New 383 goes on dyno (476hp/478lbft (corrected)):
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/09/CIMG2745-1.jpg

Wife & dog helping to install TKO-600 (cheater bar on clutch fork helping to engage input shaft, convinced wife it would be fun :))
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/09/image00011-1.jpg

Finally, installation day!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/09/image0004-1.jpg

Up and running...
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/09/CIMG3182-1.jpg

Finally enjoying the car on a Saturday instead of working on it:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/09/CIMG3181-1.jpg

But... then my fat right foot took over and now I'm back to working on it!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/09/CIMG3265-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/09/CIMG3263-1.jpg

Nothing too major, but violent wheel hop caused the rear end to slide forward on the driver's side leaf spring. I was planning to upgrade to better leaf spring eventually, so I ordered a set of Global West L-2's today. I should be back on the road within a week.

"Ok, honey, hold it right there while take a quick photo.... oh, that one doesn't look right, let me take another... na, that one won't work either......."

That's funny, because I remember her being annoyed that I stopped to take a photo while she was holding the clutch open. I'm lucky to have a wife that is interested in my car hobby. She was the only help I had available the day I dropped the motor in and I truthfully wouldn't have been able to do it without her help. She's actually better help than most of my guy friends... they just stand around and drink my beer. Here's another action shot of her putting the motor-mount bolt in. Gotta love a girl who's not afraid to get her hands dirty!

17x8s 4.75" bs rear 17x7s 4" bs front. With the brakes (because they change the tracked width) i really could use a 5" bs rear and a 4.5" bs front. The way the car sits now i have no problems i just can't go any lower.

Cars looks outstanding man. Mac71ss, regarding your statement about your backspace. Will a 4.5 B.S. clear up front w/ the Touring Classics? I just ordered my Hybrid kit last week and hope to place my rim order soon. I was thinking a 4.25 for the front, but may go 4.5 if I could swing it as you say. BTW did you you use the stock springs that came w/ the GMP14 kit? If so you might look into the Global West spring for the QA1 conversions as they are an advertised 500 lb/in spring rate and I have heard they will drop the car more and will not encounter coil bind like the OE QA1 springs.

well first off ive been lurking on here for a long time and this car is the first of many to come for me. Im 21 years old im from long island new york but im in detroit in my last year of car design school. My dad and i spent 5 years building the car from the ground up in our garage. It was a battle between the two of us the entire build, he wanted a pro street car i wanted a pro- tourrer and it ended up being a hybrid of the two. Its powered by a pump gas 383 small block with alum bowtie heads and intake. The car spent a year and a half on a rotissere to add a flavor of isca to the car. Its really a mix of alot a styles but it is definitley driven and beat on. I spent last summer in LA at the Honda design studio so i didnt have time to spend with the car but now im back in detroit and wishing i was home with it. Ill post more pics when i get some time and if anyone has any more questions just ask.

heres a few more pics from last weekend, the rear tires are the new Mickey Thompson s/r 31x18-20. The car will be shot hopfully this week for a magazine (yet to be determined) It would be sweet if PHR would like to get involved in this new pro street-touring evolution (hint hint wink wink - steve - )

10-06-2006, 08:10 AM
Currently, a budget built "semi" pro-tourer with a 350 soon to have TPI and a T-5, mild suspension mods, ie. springs, sway bars and possibly control arms if I can find a good enough deal, cheap 17x8 wheels w/ 255/45 out back, 235/45 up front. Nothing super special but it'll be good enough for the money I am spending on it. We all now how it goes though, these things are never finished

All in the need to go faster!
My partners and i determined you can build a blown alcohol Hemi cheaper than you can build a blown big block Chevy. After destorying a few sets of cylinder heads on our blown small block we decided to look at a new motor combination and we ended up with the Hemi.
If you go through my Webshots page you can see the transformation of my Nova from a daily driver to a blown Outlaw 10.5 racecar.
http://community.webshots.com/user/heminova

It started as a daily driver with a 350 and a 4 speed. (1990)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1108969603052413560mGzetd)

Then it got another small block with 2 stages of NOS. (1995)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1108970337052413560PAhlCL)

Then a back half and a blown and injected small block. (2000)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1312909140052413560yALGLs)

Then the Hemi. (2002)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1108966447052413560OCkvFE)

The car now has a blown big block, another buddy owns this motor and he is currently driving the car.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2941804610052413560yeqsmr)

Here are the first pictures of the winter update in progress. Front end rebuilt and CPP kit installed. Four wheel disc brakes, Coys wheels & 17x45x215 tires. Some non-OEM trim has been removed and more original trim added. Stock fuel line removed, installed larger line along the rocker instead of along the driveshaft. Spring and shock changes slightly lowered the car front & back.

Purchased last fall it's not really the right kind of "pro" for this site but it may end up as a Pro Touring car and the title did say "all Nova's". I'm in the near lane a couple weeks and several hundred bucks (to pass tech) after purchasing. Ran 1.7's 60' and 7.7's in the eighth mile into a strong headwind running a 327 turbo 350 combo. Yes as a matter of fact I did win! May sell if anyone's interested.

Dan you nailed the stance w/ your new setup. What were your impressions of the car after all your updates? Thanks! Overall driving impressions were consderably better with the new uncut front coils and tubular As. It's amazing how much better the front end rides with UNcut Hotchkis coils. I guess cutting the coils changes the spring rate somewhat. All-in-all I'm pleased with the suspension setup and the nice thing is that it's just a bolt-in setup with a good alignment (following GWs alignment specs).

Did you get your new wheels yet?

Awesome man, a bolt in affair w/ no coil cutting really makes it nice. Looks as tho the DSE lowers gave you just enough extra drop w/ the drop spring pocket since you didnt have to hack the front coils down. Front wheels are on order, it started out as a three week build time that has turned into 5 weeks going on 6 so far, so hopefully any day now. At least the tires are here I guess....

At least the tires are here I guess....Yeah, actually the pockets in the DSE lowers were too deep for my tire/wheel set up. I had to install a pair of GW aluminum springs spacers (3/8") to gain a little tire->fenderwell and header->ground clearance (I may have already mentioned this to you - old age is a b!atch <old age="" is="" a="" b!atch="">). It sure did look bad-a$$ sitting down low though! I had to go with GW uppers to clear the tall-deck headers. Hope you get your wheels soon! :woot:</old>

Too much oversteer?
JohnYeah, that and too heavy of a right-foot in the twisties. I had to R&R my Hotchkis rear sway with a Afco unit because the Hotchkis interfered with my new pre-fabbed exhaust system. The Hotchkis rear sway worked perfectly but the Afco does induce a bit more oversteer. It's not too bad and can be controlled with a little less throttle, but has taken some getting use to.

You may want to try running a smaller rear bar. Depending on the car I'm driving I usually don't run a rear bar or if I do it's a small one.

Yeah, we just need to get him to a track day or autox. I know it will happen, I just cant wait to see some pictures.I considered taking the Nova to my scheduled track day at Mid-Ohio in August, but I figured for my first time I should take the SRT4 instead. I'd prefer to stuff the SRT4 in to the tire barrier vs. the Nova (although my insurance company wouldn't agree - not that they'd cover the damage anyway). :drive2:

Awesome man, a bolt in affair w/ no coil cutting really makes it nice. Looks as tho the DSE lowers gave you just enough extra drop w/ the drop spring pocket since you didnt have to hack the front coils down. Front wheels are on order, it started out as a three week build time that has turned into 5 weeks going on 6 so far, so hopefully any day now. At least the tires are here I guess....

did you go with the cl205's??

Dan looking good!!! If i can only get my suspension done so i can get that low.

did you go with the cl205's??

Yea, ended up w/ the CL205's. 17x8 fronts and 17x9.5's out back. How long was the build time for yours? Apparently American Racing ran out of the grey centers which has led to the backlog on my order.

I think everybody is ordering these wheels. Nearly 5 weeks of wait 4 me. I am already thinking about changing wheels again. Thinking about going to 18's with 275 rear tire. Or minitub and new 17's and a 315 tire. Whatcha think?

If you haven't notice by now my mind moves faster than my wallet fills.:hammer:

Front Stock LCA with poly bushing, McGaughy Tubular UCA with poly bushings. Fatman Tall spindle conversion with a 2" drop. QA1 Coilover conversion, solid 1" sway bar. I am now hunting for beefier UCAs and LCAs with derlin or del-a-lum bushings
Rear: Hotchkis rear leafsprings, no swaybar. Edelbrock Classic Shocks. Looking to add either Caltracs or swap to a different spring, perhaps a fiberglass spring. I have a lousy 60' and wheel hop galore, but it handles like a champ.

im running SCandC upper control arms, with ats spindles... the arms are very stout and fully adjustable..one single improvement was running a "jounce" bumper on my lower control arms..they sit real close to the frame and are designed to work with the suspension cycle not against it like a typical bump stop

great thing is they were $12 a piece from my local chevrolet dealership

Those, my friend, are Edelbrock 454 wheels :headbang:, from back when they made them a couple of years ago. They stopped making them, but I am not quite certain why I heard every reason from a lawsuit to a fire in the facility where they were cast. Ultra is making the same wheel essentialy, just sans the indentation on the outer rim for a little Edelbrock logo. Size is 17X8, 4.25 BS all around. 235/45r17 in back (can fit a 255) and 215/45R17 (might fit a 225) up front. I am looking into Vintage Wheel V48 so I can get the correct offset to fit more rubber front and back.
