Wanted to know if anyone knew where to buy either of these instrument clusters and what it would take to get them to work . Thinking of using one in the Malibu if possible.
P.S. Prefer not to buy one from the dealer so any salvage yards or any other info would be great. THANKS!!!!
Joe
the ECM controls those gauge clusters. so if your using an LS engine it should be a matter of matching up the correct wires. word of caution. do not lay the vette gauges face down. it will ruin them. not sure if they can lay down on its back though. i can read the service manual and find out. the GTO cluster may be the same way.

Why is that? Not doubting you, just curious. I've never heard of not being able to lay gauges face down.

I believe my LT1 is a 96 w/ same year PCM. Will that work with the gauges? Also curious as to why they would be ruined if you lay them face down? That might be a tricky problem if having them shipped.
i will need to look in the service manual and see what words they use to describe what the gauges really are made of or how they are made, i believe it said so in there. i first heard about this and was surprised myself. i then looked in one fo the service manuals and it said right there not to do it. i checked with a dealer tech and he said yep dont do it. it screws everything up. it wont read correctly or function correctly, but itll look perfectly fine.
well ill have to get back to you on a company that modifies these gauges. you can change the colors and do all kinds of neat stuff to them. its not terribly expensive either. so ill get back to you on that company. my thoughts are maybe they can help you with the wiring as i do not think the LT ECM will work with the C5 gauges.
ok let me see if i get this wording right. the gauges are water filled air core gauges. the book says do not lay them on their face for more than 15 minutes. not sure if laying them on their back is the same or not. its pretty interesting to look at the gauges and think nothing of them being that special. i have no idea other than shock resistance and smooth operation for them to be like this.
