View Full Version : What if 9.5" is not an option?

So I am having a hard time choosing wheels for my 69 Camaro.

:seizure:

No tubs, so am looking at the standard 275/40/18 size tire for the rear. I may go 285 or 295 later after some rolling and pounding. Anyway, I am looking at Budnik Hammers (9.5 no proby) or some of the Boze Alloys, which only come in 9" or 10".

So, if I go Boze should I go with 9" or 10"?

Would I change the typical backspacing from the trusted 5.5"? I plan to run the Touring Classics rear kit for brakes.

For the front 18x8 (245/40/18), I was going with 4.75 BS, but after doing a search to answer my other Qs I found some references to 4.875. Is an 1/8" that big a deal? I will be running ATS tall spindles with DSE uppers and Touring Classics C5 kit for the ATS setup.

Thanks. I need to order soon...... -Eric in Boulder

Hi eric in boulder, any relation to Jenny over granite? sorry.

Your going to have to measure due to the disc being used. If you can get custom backspace for no extra charge then by all means measure it out right the first time.
A 69 will do 9" easy, I've seen 10" with a 285 tire with no problems after a lip roll and inner well massage. But please get a mock rim, tire and measure. Do it with all your brakes and stuff on the car.

1/8" can make a big difference with outer well clearence. You should be fine with 4.75" but again please verify.

I would spend 2-3 hours taking measurments and double checking before I order anything.

The 4.875 is a DSE recommendation for running Baer brakes. They say it is the "optimal" spacing. That's for the front with 8" rim width.

Budnik Hammer is available in an 18x9.5 Traditional Lip. the 18x9 or 18x10 is a Fat Lip style outer.

I know the Budniks come in 9.5, but the Boze I want do not. I prefer the Boze, so would I have issues with an 18X10, 5.5BS with a 275/40/18 in the rear? Thanks!
