I have GTO seats a trying to figure out how to intergrate the GTO seat belts into the car. THe seat belt reel is angle critical(seems to be very critical) in order to get it to disengage. I do not know if anyone has used these type of belts in this application, but I am thinking the reel would have to mount on the inner rocker next to the seat?

I realize there are some aftermarket chioces availble, but since I have these I would like to see if I can get them to work.

I know the 4th gen firebird belts have been used, but I do not know if they are speed or angle(GTO) sensitive. Any info on these type and how they get mounted would be great.

Try to find a GTO and take measurements of the angle they are placed into the car. THen duplicate that same angle in your car. Thats what I did with my 4th gen seat belts front and rear. Make your own brackets, use shims, whatever it takes to get the correct angles. Also take pics for future reference.

DId you mount the reels to the floor or the roof?

Roof just like the 4th gens. I tried to get the same angle, everything and they work perfect. Lock when I take corners hard and lock when I slam the brakes. Front and rear seat belts work perfect.

You can adjust the 2004-2005 GTO belts to where they will work at whatever angle you want to use them at.
If you are interested I'll lay it out. If not I'll leave it alone.

ok
here goes
there is a black cover on each end of the reel. One is the spring to pull the belt back in and the other is the locking device side.
The covers are held on at 3 points. There is a little black pin in each attachment hole. Push the pins thru and the cover comes off.
I THINK, and I stress THINK, that the end without the sticker is the locking side.
Try to see if you can figure out which is which first as I pullled wrong side first and had to rewind the spring..what a pain.
Anyway push the pins out and pull the cover back slowly. If you have spring side put it back and go to other end.
Once you get the correct side off you will see a little yellow piece sitting in grooves around the perimeter of the cover. If you hold the cover up and rotate it you will see the yellow piece "working" that is what locks the belt.
All you have to do is move that yellow piece around inside the cover to where ever you need it.

For instane:
If the belt moved freely with the reel mounting hole down and the yellow piece was a 2 o'clock in the cover.

If you inverted the reel and put the mounting bolt hole UP then the yellow piece would be at 8 o'clock.
you would remove cover, move the yellow piece to 2 o'clock and put cover back on.

Make sense???
If not let me know and I'll try harder.
I would take mine apart and take picture but they are already mounted in car.

P.S. When you do this you might consider taking pictures to help explain it to others...

Also I would lay it on a counter with the cover you are removing down. all the pieces will stay put if you do it that way. Then you get a real good look at the way everything goes in there before it falls out. LOL
