My wife is into watching birds in our backyard, so I have built here all sorts of feeders and such. We get all sorts of stuff from Finches, Sparrows, Blue Jays, bluebirds, Hummingbirds and such. Usually there are 30 birds out our window in the morning..
Except this morning.. almost nothing out there. I went outside to look around and in a big pine tree about 150 yards away I saw this.
He was perched up there just scoping out our backyard.. no wonder nobody was hangine out this morning. Anyways, just thought it was a cool pic.

I had 2 3 footers trying to eat my puppy, when I lived out in the woods,
A couple of months ago one landes in the tree out front it was about 10pm or so, I was working on the Nova, I think he came by to see whats going on, stayed for about 5 mins then flew off,

I'm not sure Steve, but I think it was sizing you up for lunch. You can see it in it's eyes.

We keep an aviary in the backyard. One of the local hawks prefers to think of it as a deli. Look dead center in the picture where the hawk is using one of our patio chairs as a perch.

I have the same problem. (I guess it's a problem...) I have 4 hanging feeders, an open platform feeder and two suet feeders in my front yard and I can always tell when a raptor is around... I have witnessed a couple of Mourning Doves get picked off in the last few years. It's sad I suppose but they have to eat too...:nopity:

Well no.. if the birds are hanging out in our backyard paradise then they are not in the front yard where the cars are :)
Besides my wife likes watching the birds from our family room and a happy wife = a happy life. lol

I have large hawks like that around my house during the summer preying on field mice and rabbits. I have to be careful when I let my wife's 3 pound chihuahua out for a tinkle.

There are more hawks in my area than there were 10-15 years ago. Every time I see a squirrel running along the fence I'm hoping a hawk will swoop in and pick the little bugger off. Same goes for the neighborhood cats.

His belly looks full, Steve. That's probably where all your birds are.
Coincidentally, I saw a hawk flying off with a blackbird in his claws from by backyard the other day. I felt like yelling at him, "Hey...don't kill the blackbirds...I need them to tell me where the grubs are".
Sorry...that was a little "lawn care" joke for you southwesterners who might be scratching your heads.
