I just had a guy in work to buy an alarm because someone stole the catalytic convertor off his oddessy van!?!?!? They torched it off, they didn't even unbolt it! I've never heard of this, they didn't even steal his cd player.

It was probably stolen for scrap some have a high platinum content. Last time I took some to sell a few were up to $100 plus. They've been stealing the copper out of the substations around since the price sky rockected.

Mike is correct, scrap converters are big business now, and some cars have extra high dollar ones. Must be knowledgeable theives.

Someone once stole the starter off my Ford Ranger while parked at the college dorms. They crawled under and unbolted the thing, I couldn't believe someone would go to that effort for a $55 part.

I thought "It fell off" or "someone stole it" were excuses for a aftermarket high flow converter.

The cats fell off my 99 Corvette a couple months after I got it.

you guys have really strict emmissions laws dont you? Could this be a motivator behind the theft?

I saw one last fall that had been removed in an apartment complex lot with a hacksaw. The owner was just baffled. I think it was a small Japanese car, if memory serves.
