Don't remember if I told you guys of the argueing between my wife & I over baby names.

Anyway:
We decided on a name, & Keaton Scot McKittrick. He was born Thursday via cesarian at 8:35 am. He was taken to a Hospital of Riley Childrens Hopspital because he is not getting O2 into is blood as easily as he should. Yesterday they tell us they think it is Pulmonary Hypertension. This is where the blood vessels in the lungs are not opening up like they should for the blood to pass through. So a lot of it is bypassing the lungs through a "Bypass vessel" back to the heart. A little time after birth, this bypass vessel closes off to make 100% of the blood go through the lungs. So they are going to try some drugs to open the vessels in the lungs (Nitrous oxide) & some others, and maybe try some drugs that will cause more resistance across the bypass & on that side of the heart.

I am asking that you pray for the little guy to get through this, and to give mom & dad the strength to get through it too. This is very tough.

Scot,

Prayers coming for you, momma & the little guy. I know first hand of the amazing strides accomplished in infant & child health care. My nephew had open heart surgery at 6 weeks old and has been an inspiration to our whole family for the last 8 years.

Take care,
Shane

My prayers are with you and your wife and son, Scott.

If you could...can you give us an update? Haven't heard from you in a few days. Getting concerned. How's he doing?

Yes, absolutely I will give an update, thanks for asking.

Yesterday they took him off of the oscilator & put him on a regular respirator & his O2 input is down to 26% when we left yesterday & they are thinking he will come off of the respirator tomorrow (Easter). He is off of one blood pressure med & the dose of the other is very small, and he is off of his antibiodics.

He is doing much better. THanks everyone for your prayers, thoughts & concerns.

As you can tell from the subject, Keaton is home. As of 5:25 PM Saturday April 29th, he is home. Yesterday they did a CT scan of his brain to check for brain damage in case he didn't get enough O2 before arriving at Riley. They found no signs of an damage. They also told us that he is to stay home for 6 - 8 weeks, & no excessive amount of visitors. He was in the NICU for 23 days.

Again I want to thank everyone for your prayers, flowers, gifts & so on.

Congratulations!

I know all about having newborns in ICU (i've had 3).

Sounds like the worst is behind you. My youngest son was blinded for 4 months due to too much oxegen getting to him. (he's fine now)

So, if you ever need to talk to someone who's been there, I been there.

Keaton was born physically fine, everything was developed fine. His blood vessels in his lungs didn't open properly once he took his first breath. They are closed when in the womb because blood is not supposed to go through them until they breathe. The blood bypasses the lungs through another blood vessel that I call a bypass vessel. It then closes off after 48 hours I think they told me.
