Head Cleaning???

I just got my Pontiac 400 pulled the other day, i pulled the valve covers and the inside of the heads are caked with oil, i was wondering if there was a good way to take care of this, like a dunking process in some kind of special solution that would help to clean em' up? Or if there is some other process, i'd like to know.

take them to a machine shop and have them hot tanked.
