I want an RS, but not finding a nice, clean project one-and the regular one's with the exposed headlights are all over the place. I wonder, how hard is it to correctly convert a regular exposed headlight car to a car with the hideaways?

A bracket mounted on each fender, a hole in each inner fender, and the stuff. Classic Industries (and others) sells a complete vacuum actuated kit (with grille and fender brackets) or, you could get electric kits from DSE, and others. If you are going correct with this, don't forget the taillights and reverse lights. (they're different)

Classic Industries sells a conversion kit to do just what you are suggesting. I don't recall the price but it's in their Camaro catalog.

Ricks and Classic industries both sell a kit. I think you should be looking at around $1000 for the swap (front end only).

There is a bit more to it then a bracket and a hole because it is all repo sheot that does not fit. We just did it last week in a finshed car and have a fresh reminder of how bad the repo stuff fits. With that said, it is awesome looking for sure. Also, I can save ya some money on the conversion kit

I know in the 67's the electric's had some issues but the new kits say they fixed all the problems... Which way would be more dependable the electric or the vacuum (going on a 68 convert)???

Converted mine over about 2-3 years ago. Very easy process. My passenger side was the original fender and then I bought a new RS fender for the driver side. Here is the entire process including the home made tabs. http://www.adfabdesign.com/Illusion/RS%20Conversion%20Page/RSConversion.html
