Subframe rebuilding pics

I Picked up a nice subframe from a buddy of c130fe here locally. He had already sandblasted it. I cleaned it thoroughly with POR15 Marine clean and used POR15s gray. I absolutely love the way it turned out, hopefully it will be as durable as they say it is!!! ( once this stuff dries on your hands, it is there to stay!!)

I thought that I was the only one with a gray subframe and was starting to feel kind of dumb. Here are some pics of mine. I have since gotten some GW upper control arms and am about to get the matching lowers too.

that stuff is STRONG ive used it on a few places on my car and no problems, also ive got some pants (i happen to be wearing them now) that have a stripe on them when i bumped the wet sub, i painted it over a year ago and wash the pants once a week and its as black as ever!

I just took a hammer form 3 foot away and smacked the @#$@~ out of it and it didnt phase it. I think this might be the trick!!!

That subframe looks like it turned out pretty good. We are doing that show tomorrow in Destin (at Baytown's wharf), give me a call.

Did you spray that on or brush/roller it on? How did you get inside the frame rails?

I used those cheap little sponge brushes, and stood it on end and poured some in and just did the best I could. I covered atleast 10" in on all ends with a paint stir stick taped to the brush.

No I didn't use POR, I used an industrial coating called ALK 200 it was about $30 for a gallon. I laid down an epoxy primer and then sprayed 4 coats. It is tough too, I gave it the old hammer whack test a few times and it has also experienced a pretty good bit of unintentional abuse also. All in all that paint job cost me about $45. Of course I saved money on the sandblasting because I have access to a blaster at a friend of mine's machine shop; So I blasted it myself free of charge.

It's actually back in the car now and the body man started body work this weekend. He aligned the front clip and will begin the quarter panel replacement this coming weekend. When all of that is done in a couple of weeks, I am pulling the subframe back out and doing my firewall the weekend before it goes to the paint booth. I'll post some pics of the body work in progress after this coming weekend.

Awsome! I started rebuilding mine with the subframe. I almost went POR but decided to powder coat instead.... also went with a dark grey with a hint of metallic. Here's a couple pics....

I had bad luck with POR-15. Turns out I didn't use the Metal Ready first on my frame and now there is rust coming through the paint. I did 2 coats and handled that stuff like nitroglycerine. Funny thing is...they don't stipulate that you absolutely MUST use the Metal Ready on the frame no matter what. All they say is to use it to etch the metal so that the paint sticks. Well...my frame was already rough when I had it stripped so I didn't see the point. I wish they would have had a disclaimer or something on their site (or hell, on the can) that said to use the Metal Ready first.

Now I gotta take the damn thing apart and have it bead blasted again.

I coated the inside of mine with an undercoat sprayer from Eastwood. Worked great. I just hope the paint in there holds up because I'm not blasting it out.

Why not dip it? I just paid $35 for a jumbo sized quarter (door jam to trunk w/ complete wheelhouse) at Intl.

Did you have it e-coated too? I know that Intl. is stripping and e-coating now. If they're not e-coating then I would have to buy another undercoat sprayer (because the POR-15 destroyed the last one) and do it over. I'm not up for that hassel again.
