I am planning on swapping my 275/60/15 radial T/A's for some 295/45/18 series Toyo or Nitto tires.

The combo I have on back of my 70 Charger right now are
15x8 with 4.25 backspace
275/60/15 BF Radial TA tires
these tires have 11.19 section width mounted on these rims.

I would like to swap to
18x9 TT's with 4.5 backspace
295/45/18 Tires

I have 1 inch of space on the inside to my leafsprings and 1 1/2 inch space on the outside to my 1/4 lip.
Do you guys think the larger rim and tire combo will fit?

I think the bulge might hurt you. Do they have a 40 series available?

Its going to be close you might want to look into less backspace. Move the wheel outward abit.

A 18x9" is a 10" wide rim. Then add tire bulge, 295's on a 9 will be around 9/16-5/8" each side, so your at 11.25. I think a 4" back space may work better for you since you have 1 1/2" to spare. But a 4.5 should work you'll have to measure to be sure.

I pretty much agree with the other poster although I tend to be more confident they'll fit. You have lots of clearance now and the 295 tread width is only 20 mm wider. Also, your 275/60s have a lot of bulge. If I were in your shoes and had a choice I would reduce the backspacing a quarter to a half inch just to be safe.

Mopar,I would reccomend at minimum a 9.5 inch wheel. The spec for a 2954518 is 9.5-11.0.From my bad math you have a 13.69 inch wheel opening and need to fill it with a 11.6 inch tire and a 10.5 inch wide wheel from outer lip to outer lip. This leaves 2.1 inches to play with.I would reccomend a 17x9.5 with a 4.75 back space this will center the wheel in the opening and will give you 1 inch on each side of the tire.

Frank is on the right track but you HAVE to verify the relationship of the wheel mounting face to the underbody. Use this worksheet to measure your car so you know what your limitations are:

I have the 295's on a 9.5 wheel and to me they look perfect. A 9" wheel would pooch just a little more and I think that would look fine on a muscle car.

You need to make a tool to figure out what backspace you need to center up the wheel in the wheel well. Also on a TT II, a 9" wheel is 9.5" wide lip to lip. If you had a soft lip wheel, a 9" would be 10" wide overall. The backspace is measured from the mounting point all the way to the outer lip, so mount a long straight edge to you hub and take measurement to the inner and outer wheel well or whatever is the closest obstruction inside and outside. Then center the wheel up in that space. It sounds to me like it'll work fine.

Gearbanger is correct according to american racing.Even though i have ttIIs i have never measured them, sorry for the error. If unsure of the exact measurment normally useing 1/2 inch on average will leave will enough room for error.AE says 1/2 inch is pretty much the industry standard.
