Just taking a second to say hi. I have been reading for some time and finally decided to sign up. I have been into custom cars and mainly muscle cars for quite some time now, and this site is great.
I have owned quite a few cars(as most have). I have had 3 camaro's(72,78,79), 4 Chevelles(68,69 convert, 69 coupe, and a 72), 2 Nova's(66, 70), 3 Mustangs(65,79,90) and a 69 cutlass convert.
I just picked up a 78 Camaro that may go under the knife next winter. The car belonged to friend(now brother in law) back when he couldnt even drive. I helped him restore it then(1986) and he owned up till about a year ago. A friend of mine bought it and sold it to me now because he's moving. SO, to make a short story long, I now own it. I'm not completely crazy about the color(supposed to be bright sapphire blue but looks purple) but the car is super solid with not one issue, so its a great starting point.
I co-own a speed/hot rod shop, and restore/customize muscle cars and rods. Hopefully I can learn alot, and I will definitely be asking questions.
As for shop projects of any worth to this site anyway, we are re-creating a Stude that used to spend some time on the covers of mags back in the early 60's, late 50's
A little history: Back in the mid to late 50's in Long Beach there was a car club called the Cut Outs. An original member Richard Gonzales owned a custom Studebaker. This car went through a few transormations over the years, but finally was done and dubbed the "Yellow Pearl". The car graced quite a few magazine covers and competed with the likes of George Barris and Gene Winfield. The car was painted by the now famous Larry Watson.
Years went by and he sold the car to a friend who lost the car in a garage fire. Fast forward to today. Last year Richard found another Stude in Arizona and had it shipped up here to Mass. He wants to re-create this car, wrapping the custom body around a brand new chassis/drivetrain. The only body mod different from the original will be a slight chop to add to the overall look of the car. The project itself is a group effort among different shops here in Mass.
