In debating what car to possibly use for a new project geared for more of a road course car that can be run on the street, I have found several that would fit the bill.

It's interesting though that very few of them create much of an emotional "grab" to me. I have found some decent cars for somewhat "cheap" (I know that's a relative term) but without a "gotcha" kind of appeal, I may just hang with the existing 69 camaro that does have that effect to me.

Of course I like the 63-67 vettes, but they seem to be as high (or higher) priced than the 69 camaros.

I like the idea of a solstice with an LS7, but there goes the budget again. What cars grab you guys?

Now that Mark and others are doing some Mopar suspension stuff, I really want to do a 67 Belvedere or something similar. Also a 62 Bubbletop really turns my screws.
One of my all time favorite cars is a 70 Superbird, but not alot of them laying around to do anything but a perfect resto on.
About the only Ford that would do anything for me would be a 69 stang or 70 Torino.

But then, you can read the list and tell I am somewhat of an odd bird so what do I know....

hey Bill , if you want a nice 69 stang to start with , I GOT ONE FOR YA... looks like thats comming to the GRAND with me since i sold the 57.
Unless of course , i could interest you in a Clean Cosworth Vega , hahaha.

My cars of choice and one of which i am curently in search of is a 70-71 Cuda.
Of course for me , CAMARO'S always work 67-73.
63 Vettes , as you mentioned are my favorites but i couldnt cut or modify mine , that give me pains just thinking about it!

Look at off the wall stuff that can be bought at a lower price to begin with and the DARE to be different is always a challenge.

any second gen firebird or early second gen camaro. i love Ford fairlanes from the late 60s. Xbody GMs from the early 70s. that would be the novas 73/74 GTO and venturas. 69/70 stangs. Ebody mopars(those are the box ones like the road runner right?) if you wanted to not go vintage or muscle why not an 80s Gbody GM. full frame, holds any engine you want, and many parts are starting to come out and are already out.

I really like the following... some are cheap, others are not.

2nd gen 'Vette (expensive)
Early Datsun Z car (really cheap and easy to find)
65-66 Fastback Mustang
Dodge Challenger - it may be overdone, but Plum Crazy is a great color for those cars...
Early Second Gen F bodies (70-73 Camaro or same year Firebird/Trans Am)
AMC AMX (1968 or '69)
AMC Javelin (70+)

Of course, I love first gen Camaros and Firebirds too... just trying to think of some different options for you.

3rd gen Camaro (I just plain like them)
'68 Dart
'70-'72 Chevelle

Honorary mention
'71 Impala (it was my first car so they'll always be in my heart :hail: )

All good choices, well except for the trash truck, (how long did ya have to wait for that shot?).

The only thing that grabs me anymore than my 69 camaro, would be a 66 vette, but again, I'd be right back into putting together a car I'd be a little hesitant on to beat at the track (at least up to the point I get on the track-then it's too late).

if your even considering a 66 vette which cost a chunck of change, why not consider one of the new 69 camaro bodies that are availible. then you can build it from scratch without tearing up a perfectly good car or restoring a torn up one. also if you smack it, so what it new not original and pushing 40 years old. just a thought.

I think the A body Cuda would be the first choice or a 71 road runner big block with no options and have at it

A ProMax Vennom 63 SW Vette would be my first choice, when they're available. My 2nd choice would be another 57 Nomad.

I assume we are talking affordable cars. When I win the lottery and can afford it, this is going to be my weapon of choice. The 1955 Mercedes 300SL. Silver with the red interior. All hail the greatest car ever built....(at least for me :)):hail:

67 GT500 Fastback Mustang. The Eleanor kit is the icing on the cake for me.
Even a 67 Fastback Mustang does it for me. Doesnt have to be a GT500.

Gotta agree with you on the bubble-top. Not a PT candidate, but really beautiful cruiser-type cars.

Too long, heavy for effective cornering I'd think.

yes it might not be the optimal canidate for a PT car but that doesn't mean it isn't? Look at chicayne....it may be really nice but if it isn't PT then I don't know what is

anything can be built to handle well, look at the work some of these guys but into the suspension on a 69 camaro.

That is absolutely not true. Anything can be made to handle better than it once did, but no amount of $ or fancy parts is going to make an enormous land yacht handle like an M3. Too big, too long. You can't fool physics.

A '69 Camaro is probably 1/2 the weight and has 1/3 less wheelbase. Apples and oranges.

Like I said to Travis, I really dig the Bubble-Tops. Just think they make a better cruiser than a PT car.

I've always been a huge fan of the C3 corvettes and they can be had for a not to huge amount of money. I think that would make a pretty cool Pro-Touring project.

I'd have to vote for a first gen Camaro. Second gen would be cool, too.

I doubt a camaro is half the weight of a 61-62 bubble top...
