I bought some used tubing that has been in the weather for awhile. What is the best way to remove the rust? Wet sand paper, naval jelly? A wire brush seems like a lot of work. Four 12' lengths of 1 5/8" diameter.

I don't know about how well they remove rust, but I use the 3M blackwheels to remove the mill scale before welding. I've found they work the best. Even better than flap disks and they don't take any of the metal down, just what's on the surface.

Depending on the amount of rust you may want to pass on using this tubing, if it is just a red surface rust scotch brite and WD40 do a good job, If the tube is pitted then you have lost some of the strenght as well as begining the problem of stress fractures, also when we tech a car with sonic testing a heavaly pitted area would be cause for a failure tag..............so before you start a real important job or part think if the saving is worth the risk...................Rhys @FCRacing
