Looking to replace my subframe, since the previous owner ran over something "large", damaging the driver's side portion of the crossmember just inboard where the LCA attaches to the subframe. This damage does not affect the articulation of the suspension or the ride height. It might be repairable, but I haven't had it looked at to determine.

I'm considering a replacement "new" subframe, but am looking for feedback on their ability to "cradle" a Pontiac engine.

For those that don't know, Pontiac engines sit lower in the frame than the Chevy engines. Chevy engines almost sit on "perch"-type motor mounts from what I've seen, whereas Pontiac engines sit on "lateral" mounts, right where they mount to the frame.

So, does anyone know about any of the aftermarket subframes and their ability to support Pontiac engines, whether with their own mounts or "stock" mounts?

Thanks,
Dave

I have a 68 Firebird and was originally going to use Pontiac power. Chris Alston Chassisworks makes a front subframe with Pontiac engine capability.

I have a Wayne Due frame, and he knew I was running a 455 and didn't seem concerned. The only thing he wanted to know from me was if I still wanted the motor mounts offset like stock to turn the mortor a bit cockeyed. I believe GM had one motor mount bit more forward than the other, which offsets the motor axis.

Anybody know why this was done?
