Need shock spacer

I've installed the DSE mini-tub in my '68 Camaro, and have a FAB9 rear end housing with back braces. The driver's side shock is hitting the brace on the rear end, but it would clear if I had another 2-3". Would it be ok to put a spacer in between the shock and lower spring mounting plate where it attaches? If so where could I get something like this? Approximate measurements are (don't have the car here - at paint shop) 5/16" id and 1" od by 2-3" long.
