honing vs boring oversize

A local shope oversizes bores with a honing machine rather than a boring machine, as much as .030. Never heard about this. He uses diamond hones to remove large amounts of material. Any feed back, Pros/cons?

well the only way i now how to do it and the way i do it.i bore it to within 5 thousands,and then hone fit to the pistions.this give's the best fit,instead of just boring the full amount,and sticking pistions in.if you end up with a 27 thous over pistion and a 30 over bore,theres alot of slope.
