I have a 12 bolt rear housing out of a Chevelle and it is missing a bearing cap for the carrier. Someone told me that I can buy billet caps and just replace them. And I've also heard that you can not replace caps without removing the axle tubes and align hone. Who is right and where can you buy caps?

Mark Williams (http://www.markwilliams.com/Catalog/pg39.pdf) makes replacement, steel caps.

(I would also opt for the solid spacer as well.......)

Yes you can replace them and no you do not have to alignhone them to make it work correctly...... you just have to fit the cap correctly. The included instructions are worthy and all you need is a good file, an outer carrier bearing race and a piece of flat glass or granite to help you out. An inside bore mic would be even better, but it is not necessary.
