This is a 1969 400 iron block. About 200 hours of labor and counting. Still smoothing out the lifter valley and timing chain cove, and then it's on to the crank case. (Lifter valley and timing chain cove will eventually match the rest of the block.) It will eventually be candy clear coated. Leaning towards using this in gold: http://www.alsacorp.com/products/clear4chrome/cl4ch_prodinfo.htm

Very nice especially considering thats an IRON block!! Aluminum is one thing but IRON. That must be very rewarding. It will be interresting to see how well that clear coat holds up on the bare block.

I think you are over exaggerating the effects of clear coat. It would run hotter with red than clear.. :enguard:

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys. From the beginning I had already determined that I was only going to ask 450hp out of this block, so the concern over whether I'd have to worry about it blowing up wasn't ever that major. I wasn't out to set any land speed records, just have a fun street motor to tool around in on weekends and maybe win some shows with. To be honest the original plan was to put this thing in a 67 Firechicken that I used to own, but had to sell about a year ago to get rid of some debt. So at this point I'm kind've in limbo about what I wanna do with it. I have a 95 Camaro that I could put it in, but I don't know if I wanna mess with converting the top end/EFI stuff to work with the older block. Hell I may end up just selling it.
But anyway thanks again for the :twothumbs

Please don't put it in a 4th gen f-body! No one can see the block in those cars.
It looks nice.
