looking at this set up for my 87 Monte SS... input? (I know it's no 69 camaro :poke: but humor me ok...)

I was thinking of using the 600# or 650# spring.
This would give a min. 12 5/8" & max. 14 3/4" inital free spring height .

A stock Monte SS spring has a 14.65" free spring height. And a 420 lb./in spring rate.

Actually I was thinking of welding the adjusters in the upper pockets while I have the frame stripped & upside down. I understand the adjustment issues with this plan.

If I were to install the adjusters in the lower pockets (an Idea I really don't like) wouldn't I need to grind/cut a helix in the adjuster to comform to the lower spring pocket?

Like I mentioned I was planning on either using 600# or 650# front springs. What rear spring rate should I consider? I am thinking 150-175#

And how about mod'ing the rear spring locations to accept a 5" dia spring and adjusters for the rear? like the above adjusters & 252510-175 5" X 10" REAR TRU-COIL SPRG (http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/aspx/paging.yes/dept_id.158/display_id.165/qx/Product.htm)This would give a 13 1/8" min - 15 1/4" max free height spring.
Again a stock Monte SS rear spring has a free height of 14.75" and a spring rate of 121Lb./in

I would not weld them in. You never know, you might want to remove them someday.

Does the spring shim allow you to adjust your ride height?

Would they stay if you just tacked them in a few spots?

Maybe its just my way of installing them... But when I get them in there. No matter how much time I take to get them in straight and right... Once the car is on the ground and I bounce the car I will hear them pop. Unless you can weld them once the car is level...

I put mine in without welding and I still wonder how they dont self adjust as the car bounces and twists. I guess the load on the adjuster prevents that?

Yes sir. Even when the adjusters are out of the car.... Put them on the spring as if it was in the car. Push down and try to spin it. Impossible. Now if your going through wash board roads it might be a different story. But by the time the adjuster moves, something else has fallen off the car.
