Cool car, major potential, great start! I love those little cars, drove one from CA to Nebraska back in 1984 for college. The 302 was powerful enough to have some fun, but my friend's sister did not want us to help her fix the car up, she just wanted to drive it. It was red with a black stripe. Good luck, keep up the great work, and keep us posted.

Those front brakes look like the same kind of idea we're going to put together for my Cougar ... big late model Ford rotors and calipers, on the stock spindles and drum hubs, with a custom bracket.

Good job, it will be interesting to see the finished product!!

I won't pull the "lookin good" statement on you. haha.

Progress is looking great. One question, how old are you? I'm not old don't worry :Alchy:

She's too young.
Hopefully we will make some major progress on the brakes this weekend. Front and rear. Also gonna try to get the motor wired up.

Its just curiousity, nothing else... I didn't see her post in the "how old are you" thread.

Hey...very good eye. Have you worked on the bracket for your car yet?

I have a friend that does some fabricating, currently mocking them up for me. Once they're done, we're probably going to work on brackets to mount PBR calipers over 12" late-model Crown Victoria rotors, for the people who would rather run 16" wheels, not 17" or larger.

The setup for my car is going to need 18" to clear. Think of the fastest current Ford production car, that's the front brakes we're working with.

The rotor looks nice 'n beefy, but it seems like a bigger caliper that 'hugged' it better would better utilize it

I will. You're hot. Nuff said.

....car's lookin' good too. It's great to see other types of cars get the Pro-Touring treatment. You get tired of the same ole...same ole. Kudo's to you and your Dad for going against the grain and choosing a challanging project such as a Comet. This is just the type of stuff PHR was jumping up and down about a few months back.

Best of luck with the project, and keep us posted.

Hey Ralph!
The rotors are 13", They are off of a 2000 cobra! the same for the calipers. I have the brackets mocked up now this should stop a 3500 lb car ok!!

Just to be perfectly correct, those are NOT 2000 Cobra calipers. The only Cobras built in 2000 model year were the R model cars, which had Brembo 4 piston calipers over the same 13" rotors. So your calipers are 99, 01, 03, 04 style PBR Cobra calipers (no Cobras for North American sales in 2002 model year either).

Those are good brakes, I have the same on the front of my Thunderbird Super Coupe, which sees some open-track usage on Hooiser race tires. And it weighs 3,800 lbs!! I've killed a few sets of pads, but the OE Ford rotors (which are supplied by Brembo) are still perfect.

Britt,

I can't tell you how great I think it is that you are not only interested in older cars; you are stepping up to the plate with the help of your dad and a few friends to take part in bringing a cool little car back to life. So many kids at your age (16) just want the keys and could care less about what they are taking into their possesion or what it took to work, save & pay for it. Trust me I was like that back in the day & in reality most kids at 16 are the same. I am really proud of you and your dad.... it's just so cool. Your dad is a smart guy to share with you how much work it takes to get a car fixed up. You are learning one of the most valuable lessons that you will remember for life and having a blast doing it.:twothumbs

I hate to admit it, but I am technically old enough to be your dad (36), but I would like to think I'm more "uncle-aged".:rotfl: I grew up in a male dominated family; as a matter of fact my mom was the last female born on both sides of my family and that was 1935!! I broke the cycle and have a 4 year old daughter. Growing up I never understood the phrase "Daddys little girl"....... WOW the emotions and bond that Dads & Daughters have huh??

Anyway....... this picture just pulls at my heart!!!:crying:

Keep up the good work and I guarantee that you will have the car that everyone talks about and wants to cruise in this year!!!:drive:

Tell your dad he should be very proud of you!!!!!

Ahh, okay, thanks. My buddies got a '98 Cobra with 13" rotors and PBRs, stops damn well for a factory setup (much better than my SS).
