View Full Version : Great compliment from car loathing wife

My wife has never been a big fan of the smelly-loud-obnoxious-beast I call a Pro-Touring Camaro. I attribute some of that hostility to the fact that it sat in the garage inoperable for 2 years while I wrote a book and built the car. Until a few weeks ago, I could count the times she had ridden in my car on one hand.

Her 2003 Passat has been in the shop for the last few days to repair the air conditioning, ABS problem, and bad trunk hinges. They originally said it would be done in one afternoon, so we declined the rental car. That estimate turned into 3 days. So for three days we drove my car around to run all the errands and dropping her off at work and driving to my job.

Yesterday we were coming back from dinner and she said, “Your car takes the corners really well.” I asked, “What?” I heard her, but I wanted to hear her compliment my car twice. :) She answered with the same comment followed by, “It’s even better than my car. You turn the wheel and it just goes without effort.”

It’s still a smelly-loud-obnoxious-beast, but at least I got a compliment.

I have a 95 Passat, a VW at the dealer for REPAIR I'm flabbergasted!!! I fine German touring machine wooops, I'm talking about BMW,

My brother gave me his Passat, I'm not stupid enough to buy a water pumper, old school,

My new G/F likes the Nova and the Camaro, likes going drag racing more, Cool

Ex-wife rode in first 2 Camaros, when were kids, Then biotched about money spent, later on, NOT cool,

2nd G/F had to take 68 SS BBC car away for racing in NC while I was at work, she like to kick azz on the locals!!!

Good for you Tony!!

Something's fishy. She must be workin' you. What could it be? A cruise perhaps? No! A bathroom makeover. Yup. You're getting a new bathroom. You just don't know it yet.

Yeah,

Our VW has been in the shop at least a dozen times for warranty work.

A few items... wiper blades, sunroof wouldn't close (bad sensor), ABS sensor went bad two times now, idler pulley spring went bad, trunk hinges bound up, air conditioning climate sensor changes temp in car when ever it wants, and the rear pads had to be replaced already. It only has 34,000 miles on it.

I think we got a lemon.

On another note. Girls that like hot rods are cool!

Tony,

I see the importance of getting a compliment. My g/f doesn't care for cars. Her father owned and ran a Ford dealership for years and cars have never important to her. She is now wanting to be more involved in the camaro build. I am painting it metallic blue since that is her favorite color as well as mine and she wants custom black leather so thats what I am going with.
Of course if I didn't like her ideas I would do it my way anyways!

before long your wife will be driving your ride around town!

When my wife saw the car first time when I bought it her reaction was "you call this basket case a car"
Now she can not wait it's finished, ( maybe she is tired that I always work on it) She also admits that she did not think it would turn around the way it is.
She even told me that she will do a big party when it is all done.

There's nothing like a girl telling you "go faster" or smiling and giggling as the RPMs climb, rather than "slow down, I'm scared". ...Well, there's a few things, but this site's PG13. :spank2:

My wife picked the color of my car (2005 GTO red) and helped with the upholstery colors too. She doesn't quite understand my hobby, but she supports it fully, even if, on occasion, the amount of money spent on it worries her a little. Right before we were married, I asked her "you're not going to be one of those gals who trys to make me sell the bike and car are you?" Her reply was great, she said "no! Every good woman knows that a man has to have his toys." She followed up with "if he doesn't have his toys, he finds something else to play with, and that usually has boobs."

She also is the one who decided we should buy the Harley... I have a GREAT wife!

Take 'em when you can get 'em! My wife refers to mine as "that piece of junk car".

I share your pain, Tony. My wife bears no understanding of "that thing" in the garage, and never has. I always tell her, "that's not very nice...(that thing) has feelings you know?" She's never driven in it though...perhaps that's the problem. I'll have to give her a ride in it when it's finished; sometime around the turn of the next century.

My wife kinda gets it. She doesn't like the multiple project though! She wants me to get one project and work on it! Our first date was to the track to watch my friends race!

Steevo,

Actually I remodeled both bathrooms 2 months ago...along with replacing everything in the kitchen. We had to replace everything in our condo so we can sell it. Our new two-car garage... I mean house is getting the final touches now. In fact I think the carpet is getting installed today. There isn't any real reason for her to say a nice thing about the car. I think it was genuine. :) I know that she has a completely new appreciation for my building and carpentry skills since I did all the work on the house. I even surprised myself.

I got lucky with finding my wife.. she knows this makes me happy and tollerates my sickness.. lol.. Just so long as I don't put the car before her, the family or doing stuff to the house.

She even has resisted complaining about the dead '68 Mustang in the driveway (covered).. I KNOW she wants to though..

Hey Tony, wanna come over and help me re-tile a shower?? :)

Awesome. It sure sounds like you're in the clear. The only thing left to worry about is a M.I.L.E.S. issue. (Mother-in Law Extended Stay). If the new house has one too many bedrooms, convert it into an office as soon as possible
My wife's real cool as well. A coupla weeks ago she said: "Honey, maybe the A3 does need one of those Neuspeed chips. How much power does it add?" And that's something that I mentioned to her at SEMA!! I was blown away.

Kathy and I met with our architecht last night to go over our "wish-list" for the remodel on our other house in Mt. View (the one we will eventually live in). She made a specific point of ensuring he and I discuss my plans for the garage. Direct quote, "I want to make sure the garage fits True's needs just as much as I want the rest of the house to suit mine."

Actually, she may be working you for a new car for her!! :banghead: But hey, whatever it takes to get some recoginition! :twothumbs After all, if only women knew how easy they could work us if they just did that more! Congrats!
I actually got a true car chic! The 58 Nomad is actually "hers"! :thankyou: She tells everyone about "her" car. She can't wait to get to drive it! LOL!

Tony, you got a keeper. Most women only acknowledge the color of a car, much less how it handles:bicycle: I have been blessed with car gals in my life. My wife talked me into buying my Camaro and calls it my "Other Red Head". My daughter "persuaded" me to buy her a '68 Camaro when she was in High School. GOTTA LOVE 'EM
