Temp sending unit question (68 camaro)

Ok. This should be an easy one.

Stock gauge panel (N.O.S) for 68 camaro, ralley pack.
Iron head small block.

Is the wire from the temp gauge to the sending unit supposed to be hot? or is it supposed to be a ground. If so how many ohms?

The wire is grounded. I don't know the ohms but it gets stronger with more heat. FRANK
