View Full Version : Is this a fair price for interior work?

Its on a 1974 Camaro LT. The reason Im having it done custom is they do not reproduce the LT interior. Im putting a picture at the bottom of my interior, its being redone the same pattern (vinyl on the outside with fabric in the center). Thanks to greased lightning it looks worlds cleaner then it did in this picture but im sick of the tan combo. Also im getting the car painted this month with the factory color (same as N-Memory's if you want examples).
For carpet with extra sound deadening, door panels, front and rear seats, and a trunk liner (sound deadening and custom formed carpet for the whole trunk) would be 1300. This is for premium vinyls and fabrics on everything, he had a few different grades and I just went with the highest since I don't know anything. Also it is going to be all black now. Im doing the dash, headliner, trim pieces etc myself with dye.
The breakdown was:
600 for seats, which includes new padding also.
240 for the door panels.
300 for the carpet.
180 for the trunk.
Looking at the prices of everything in classic (for the standard/deluxe) this does not seem bad to me since it is installed price, and I would rather not mess around with it myself.
Thanks for any comments in advance :)

If the $600 is for the front and rear seats, that is a good price. Not sure on the rest, carpet seems high since you can get premolded from ACC for $100. I paid $900 for just my rear seat.

600 for both. The carpet might be a little high but thats including all the sound deadening stuff (really thick carpet padding and dynamat).
I know the door panels are a good price, since pre assembled in the classic industries catalog is anywhere from 230-300 depending on the model.
Thanks for your reply.

I was qoted $2000 just for the seats in oem material for my 69. The main part of the cost was for the fabric. I would'nt hesitate to pay that to this shop they do all of our interior work and there haven't been any complaints in the last 10 years.

I would say thats a pretty descent price, I'm payin a 1000 just for my seats, doin the rest myself.
if the guy knows what he is doing and you are satisfied with the work he has done in the past then it is cheep enough and you probably wont find it cheeper anywhere else. I have been quoted anywhere from 1700.00 to 4000.00 in my area but that includes everything that you are doing yourself. I contacted every shop within 120 miles of me that I could find.

You might consider asking Shannon:

He does more of the REALLY high-end, high $$$$ stuff, but he could probably help you out with an idea of what you should expect to pay based on what you are looking for.

I don't see headliner. Often overlooked unless it is hanging in your face all the time.

I have the hard vinyl headliner. Im just using vinyl spray-on dye for it.

i think its worth it to get rid of the interior you have now. right now my interior consists of floors with holes so i cant say much.

I went to another place today that wanted 2400 bucks to do it all. They were using the same local supplier for fabrics too. They looked like they did great work, but the stuff the guy showed me he had going on in his shop at the first place looked great so I'm gonna stick with him.

I'd say the first quote sounds pretty darn good. Just please don't replace the carpet on the dash! (One of my pet peeves is seeing carpets on dashes, please don't take it the wrong way).
I just got quoted yesterday, $6000 for a full custom interior in leather for my 68'. This would include everything from carpet to headliner, dash, seats etc. Pretty much in any design I can come up with.
Was quoted $2200 to install a complete interior kit, if I buy the kit. This would end up costing me about $4000 ($1800 or so for the kit).
Prices were a little more than what I was hoping for, but in Hawaii it is far and few between to find a good upholstery shop, and supposedly this guy has done some awesome work.
