I am trying to get insurance and the only guy that I have found that can do the appraisal says $350 to get it done, does this sound reasonable to you guys. Also he says he is booked up and will only be able to get to it after when I need the appraisal by. So anyone know someone who can get it done quick in MD (by quick I mean by Monday or Tuesday of next week). Thanks. Obviously willing to pay a little more for expediency.

Appraisal for my car cost $150. Keep looking for the right appraiser though. If you don't get someone who understands the cost of building a car like we build it could be way off. My car was appraised at $25,000 for just the main shell and drivetrain, no front sheetmetal, wiring interior or other plumbing. When done the estimate was around $40,000. But that was 2.5 yrs ago so it could be much more now when complete. The appraiser for my car also builds cars and his brother sells repro parts for Mustangs and t birds so he understands what it cost to do a car.
Getting the wrong appraiser will cost you if you need it for insurance and you get it under insured and underappraised unless you are looking to keep cost of the insurance down a bit and willing to eat it if something happens.

Thanks for the advice Jim,
The insurance quote I got seemed to be good ($366/yr) for 50k of full coverage, provided I only drove her 3000/yr. Only problem is I need the appraisal to get the 50k+ of coverage. Plus, I have a tough timeline to contend with. May be worth it to get a reduced coverage until I can get an accurate appraisal and then change my policy. This way I can get my tags updated (requires insurance) and have the car legal in all respects.
