So "REALISTICALLY" IF you already had a good LS1/T56 combo, (without the wiring harness) what do you think you can install it for soup to nuts doing the majority of the work yourself? I am looking for a realistic range.

I am asking this question because I was just getting ready to order the ZZ383 and by the time it was all said and done, I would be spending roughly $6,000.

Then I just found a KILLER price on a LS1/T56 combo for $1500.00 do you think I could get this thing going in my 67 camaro for $4,500.00????? if I do the work?

well heres the thing, while that is technically possible the same reason you went with a ls1 (trick motor, lots of power, etc) will probably also make you want to do more than a bare bones swap.

about 6 months ago i was in your same place and said wow this isnt that bad...

i dont even want to know how much ive got in it, not so much the motor itself but things like, oh its easier to clear headers with a rack and pinion so i might as well put one of those in, so on and so fourth, ive got damn near $15k in parts in this session of modifying but with all the knowledge i have now and with good fabricating skills it COULD easily be done for under $3k on top of the engine cost.

there is a sticky on ls1tech.com in the conversions and hybrids section about specificly swapping ls1s into first gens check it out.

Assuming that you are having someone else do the labor... I wouldn't go at this one with less than $15K in the bank AFTER buying the motor

Thank you for the input I will look at that sticky, I do not have $15,000 more to throw at the car rite now.

If you can do the work yourself, its not too bad. It all depends on the amount you spend on the engine/tranny themselves.

engine/tranny
exhaust manifolds or headers
custom driveshaft
engine mounts
computer/harness
modified oil pan to clear steering
electric fuel pump & regulator, lines
custom computer tuning
electric fan(s) for radiator

I think if you look at the cost of doing the swap

$200 for oil pan
$450 reworked harness(Speartech)
$300 reprogram pcm(Speartech)
$800 stainless steel tank with internal fuel pump
$40-125 for motor mounts
$rad/ fan set up $600-1200
$tranny cross member $100
drive shaft shorten$?
