My 69 rs/ss clone has turned out so nice, that even though I have had it at both the road course and the drag strip, and almost 4000 miles on the street, I feel it's too nice for me to drive it the way I like to drive these cars, so...
When my 67 camaro with the bbc was'nt quite ready for last months road course track venture I took the 69. It more than held it's own through all the twisties even with some 03/04 vettes , although a porsche and ferrari would hang right on my tail in those areas. For awhile there was'nt a car in the group that would stay within 4-5 car lengths in the staightaway at 140 mph until that factory GTRS viper (I think that's what you call it) came roaring by me doing probably 160???
At 3900 lbs with a 200lb driver, my 69 is no lightweight, but with the 406 making 550+ ponies I thought I was representing the pt and old muscle car group fairly respectable till that happened.
With another 75 horses, better brakes and at least 800lbs lighter he made short work of me, the big apex, and the staightaway. Yowsa.
I'm gonna try the ebay thing with the 69, with the option of a healthy discount available, if I keep the engine, headers, ignition items, tranny with the gear vendors and the driveshaft. (the th350 and gv unit would be for a backup unit for the 67).
I'd like to use the 406 in a lightweight car, with huge by large brakes that I can drive on the street, but specifically geared for the road course with a manual tranny. Both my camaros have been on the heavy side and a compromise for street/track/drags. They work good for what they are, but I'm thinking I can loosen up the 67 suspension for the drag track, and build something that although may not quite run with that hotted up viper, but at least keep it close.
Any ideas on a body style that would lend itself well to what I'd like to do here?
I have considered getting a 65-66 chevy II and drop the bbc in it for the drags and use the 67 camaro for this, but I'd have to start doing alot of hacking to accomplish where I need to be weight wise, and handling wise, but that's a thought.
Input appreciated!
