Does anyone know the weight difference between a big block chevy iron head and a small block chevy aluminum head? I’m thinking about swapping to save some weight.

B/B iron to S/B al head is at least 200lbs. Heads alone are 75lbs. Then you have the LS1 swap, that is another 150lbs. off the front clip.

Here are exact figures:SMALL BLOCK
all iron small block 520 lbs.
alum heads w/iron small block 480 lbs.
all alum motor 389 lbs.

BIG BLOCK
all iron BB 754 lbs.
alum heads with iron block 660 lbs.
all alum BB 501 lbs.

So, B/B iron head to S/b al head difference is 274lbs.

soooooo
What I’m reading is if I swapped to an ls1, I’d shave off 365 lbs?

Guess you have a new project. Don't forget when you are fabbing mounts you might as well set the motor back a few inches for some more weight distribution advantages.
