View Full Version : Reptile guys: got a question for ya...

I got a wild hair up my a$$ today and thought "I live alone 4-5 days a week and it gets wicked lonely round here, I need a pet" and since I can't have a dog or a cat (allergic to cats anyway) and fish are boring and their tanks are high maintenence, I decided on a reptile.

I'm not wild about snakes, so that leaves lizards. I don't like little hyperactive ones so I looked at the bigger ones. Now I'm torn between a couple types.

The choices are:

-Veiled Chameleon (my personal favorite so far.)
-Bearded Dragon
-Leopard Gecko
and *maybe* a Moss Leaf Tailed Gecko (sinister looking rare breed, but I'd have to buy 2 of them.)

Basically my biggest problem is deciding which one I'd be happiest with. I've read that the Chameleons aren't so keen on being held and I think if I had a cool lizard, I'd wanna hold it or play with it at least a little.

I'm also not looking for anything that eats only mice/pinkies, or crickets/worms. Veggies would be ideal and not as much of a hassle.

So yeah, that's my situation. Any help would be awesome. Hoping to have my mind made up by later today.

Thanks guys.

Kris

Kris,

I have had tons of lizards and snakes...and I would recommend the chameleons. They are more laid back and not so skiddish... Plus you can build a nice looking cage using plexiglass or lexan- build it tall since they like to climb. Reptiles are no dogs, they couldn't give 2 *****$ to see you at the end of the day. But they are cool to watch.

Good luck...and post a picture of what you get.

Hence the 4-5 days a week. It's a long distance relationship...so I only see her on weekends. It's a bummer.

Get a Bearded Dragon.. The Humidity issues with tropical Lizards is a pain to deal with when doing it right. Plus beardies can be puppy tame when handled alot.

Get a guinea pig. They make great pets and aren't high-maintenance.

Why not a dog?

Ended up going with the Chameleon. For some reason the bearded dragon just didn't do anything for me.

Couldn't have a dog because I'm currently in an apartment and they aren't allowed. But I dig the Chameleon for now. :smoke:

Not suprised you can't find a date with a bunny rabbit hangin out of your...long distance...better close the gap. They never last. good luck with your chameleon. Put a plaid backing on his cage to keep it interesting. LOL

Kris,
My girlfriend has a beautiful Leopard Gecko and I have an albino Leopard Gecko. My albino is very very timid and we cant even hold him. However Heathers Leopard Gecko is very friendly and always fun to hold and pet. Very easy maintenance too. Throw some crickets/worms in there a couple times a week and just keep water in there and your all set. I posted pics of our gecko somewhere on this site. I will try to find pics.
I know you said you didnt want a cricket/worm reptile but these geckos really are low maintenance.
Mabey you could get a turtle!! They are as low maintenance as it gets. :)
EDIT: Found one pic of Heather holding the leopard gecko.
