yes or no?
What do you guys think of this? Does it depend on the car, the color of car? How dark do you go?? Do you think it detracts from the cars appearance?
Just a few questions, wanted to get your opinions on this,
Thanks,
John

With the summers in South Carolina it is almost mandatory down here. Unless you like getting second degree burns from your leather seats and ignition switch. Tint helps alot. 35% is the legal limit here and that is dark enough. I think most cars look better with tint if it is not completly blacked out.

Limo that thing. I have 15% on my cars and it looks great. My 5.0 has 5% on the back & sides. I think it smooths out the car because you dont have the interior peice messing with the lines.

Most all states have laws that govern the use of window tint. Many/Most states require 35% as the maximum darkness for the front door drivers side window and front door passenger window. Many states still allow darker tint on the rear windows and side windows "behind" the front driver's and passengers doors. If you choose to tint the top of the front windshield, how low you can tint the winshield is governed by Federal Law and is no lower than the "AS1 or AS2" marking about 3-4 inches down from the top of the windshield. It look stupid to tint the front side door windows with 35% and the rear with 20%. Whatever you do, be consistent!

Having said all that, I have 20% on my cars that have aftemarket except my wifes daily driver. This is illegal in Tennessee and therefore there is no certification sticker under the tint. My wife does not like the 20% tint from a safety/driving perspective. She loves the look of the darker tint however would rather see out of the vehicle at night than be "cool" during the day. 20% tint looks great on most vehicles but is a little dark for night driving when backing up. The exterior color of the car also makes light tint look darker or vice versa. 35% tint on a white or silver car looks great! The exterior color of your car makes a big difference.

Most states require a "sticker" be applied under the tint at the corner of the driver's front side window by the installer "certifying" that the tint meets the requirements of the state law. Cops in most states can/will make you remove legal 35% tint if that sticker is not installed just to screw with you if they are looking for a reason. This sticker is a requirement on all tint job in most/all states. It is also illegal for an installer to install "non-legal" tint however we all know that is done all the time. They just leave the sticker off and do it for cash so the tint job cannot be traced back to the installer.

Install 20% and become a convict!

To add to this:
Tint is graded in two ways, light transmittance (how much light is allowed to pass through) and light reflectiveness (how much light is blocked). NY allows 35% light reflectiveness (not very dark at all) on the front door glass. You could paint the back windows black for all they care. The stuff you would buy in a parts store labeled 35%, is light transmittance (65% lr). So be careful.
Oh yeah, stay away from mirror tint. Cops do not like it at all! It's a good way to have them come at you guns drawn!

From personal experience on 2 different cars I say do not go too dark. You wont be able to see around your car at night. Dont go any darker than 35%. I wouldnt go any darker than 50% all around.

ALL of my cars (and truck) are tinted on ALL windows. 35% on the rears, 50% front doors, and 85% on the windshield. YES the windshield too. It cuts glare at night a TON, keeps the car much cooler during those hot summer CA months, and makes the car look SOOOO much better. Keep it moderate and the cops won't bug you too much.
