One of the winter projects I have for my 69 Camaro is to remove the front/rear seats and carpet, strip the floorpan and apply POR-15 as needed. In addition, I would like to install Dynamat, or a similar product, to reduce the heat/ noise inside the vehicle and was looking for any recomendations or tips.

Thanks in advance,
Rod

A good Dynamat alternative...

I'm going to use their floor liner in my 67.

Andrew just did an article in PHR I think about this. He will probably chime in on this. He did massive work to reduce NVH. There are tons of products for this purpose out there.

Rod,

My guy (Tim) recommended Lizard Skin. It is a spray on product. It is both a thermal insulation and a sound deadener. Tim does some nice stuff so I have to trust him on this one. I should be getting my car back within a couple of weeks for wiring and I'll see the product then. I'll let you know how it looks. I saw one of the Nova guys had some pix on a thread I'll see if can find it. www.lizardskin.com

Pics of my Nova interior (http://www.et-motorsports.cc/project_cars/nova_62_menace/Construction/Interior/index.htm)

Above is the link to my Nova interior page. It shows the finish of the lizard skin sound deadener/insulator. It can be sprayed on, brushed on, or rolled on. I used a 4 inch roller to apply it to my center console and it went real easiy. Spraying it on does provide a better finish. I still don't have the car running so I can't tell you how it sounds.

I got it not only to cut down on noise but also on the interior temps. I applied it to the roof as well as on every panel and floor. I installed Vintage air so I'd like to make it as efficient as possible.

Recommendations for reducing heat/noise inside vehicle....

Drive naked (heat) and turn the stereo up (noise). Works every time. :headbang:

:barf: Thanks Steve. That is a very bad mental image. The bad part is in my job I have seen people drive neeked.

I like to use liquid deadeners. There are easier to work with since you can just paint them on. Here is the one that I used:

I also used some heat isulation from Lowe's, it was a kind of double sided foil with air pockets in between, and some fireproof home capeting padding. The car is signifigantly quieter and i no longer feel the heat coming through the firewall or transmission tunnel.

It took 2 gallons of the liquid to do the floor in my 67 camaro. A tip if you go with liquid:

get some disposable gloves and make sure you out any bolts that go in the floor in before you start, you don't want to get anything down in those threads

How much prep did you have to do to apply a liquid product? Did you have to remove all of the seam sealer as weelas the old tar paper? Thanks

I got a 100 square foot FatMat Fat Pack and did my '68 last summer. Reduced noise levels substantially. Doesn't reflect heat all that great though. Overall I was very pleased with it.
