Hi,

I’m looking for a crate motor (650-850hp)....not sure where to start looking but I know there are many websites/companies that produce proven crate motors...

Could you please list companies or websites where I can look, or make recommendations on reputable brands...

Thanks!

Now that is a loaded question.

I think one of the best you will find (Frank from Prodigy Customs is a dealer - I will buy one from him one of these years) is Bill Mitchell's World Products engines.

They should have something that could handle that power rather reliabily.

Frank has a PDF that shows some of their stuff, but I cant find the link.

Anyways, they come with the dyno sheet to YOUR engine, not a sister engine. They are ready to run and have a 2 year warranty to boot!

Regardless, there are a lot of questions that you may want to clarify to get some more posts.

ie. what kind of car do you have, do you want BBC or SBC, Fuel Injected, turbo'd, NOS, budget, etc....

There are a lot of factors that will come in to play.

GM makes a 572 crate engine with 620hp (720 if you wanna run race fuel). It's not quite the 650 you were looking for, but I thought I'd mention it anyway...it can be nice to have a factory engine with a warranty, although some aftermarket companies warranty their engines, as someone said above.

What type of car/truck and what are your goals? Track/High RPM motor, torque street stroker, Drag race, etc? What Tran's to you plan on running, what type of vehicle?

There are thousands of ways to make between 650-850hp. It all depends on what you're planning on doing with it.

Motor is going into a 81 Chevy Malibu, prefer big block, its currently set-up as a pro street (ill be doing a pro-charged sb pro-touring cuda or camaro soon), it will be street driven 30-40 days per year (weekends and sunny days), and maybe 2-3 times to the track. Id like it to run 10s on 10.5" tires...

I dont have a real preference btwn n/a or blower motor, but i dont want to use NOS. Probably going to use a th400 trans.

any other questions that will allow u to help me just let me know...

keep the crate motor companies coming...

thanks!

You only need about 550HP / 600HP in a proper set up 3500lb car to run 10s. A small block 427 Mitchell motor would get you there, or we can go with a 540, 572, or 632. All ablout your budget.

Pricing will run $9,000 to $15,000 depending on size and HP
