My ls1 is in!

Well i actually got it dropped in last thurs but been too busy to post pics. The engine is fairly stock, just a cam and valvetrain, ls6 intake, ported throttle body, arp rod bolts and a ls6 clutch.

Just tryin to haul ass and get it running, today got the hydroboost in, mocked up the covans gauge pannel and finished up my uber ghetto radio head unit bracket....

...try not to be too jelous at my headlight bracket/windage tray radio mount, scary thing is it works like a charm haha

Well i went with a stiock appearing radio since my dash wasnt hacked but the only way of mounting it was with one stud on the back, so its essentially just a cradle for the entire head unit, and uses that rear stud and i welded in some nuts to the front and its held to the dash with some bolts through the stock holes to either side of the knob holes. Now ill be able to eject a tape without loosing the radio in the dash...

I cheated when I installed the LSx in my 69. I actually installed it on the subframe first. I slid that in and installed the sheetmetal around it (after I had the firewall painted, etc).

I ran a Steeroid rack and was late getting my headers fit so they actually went in last.

Yours looks great. You are going to love it. I did a SLP head/cam/LS6 intake, injectors, and tuning. It runs like the wind and gets great MPG. Just wish I had gone with a six speed. The auto with a 2,800 stall is okay, but it lacks that thrill you get from banging your own gears.

well ive gotten a bit further along, still waiting for a bunch of small stuff and to make sence of the wiring.... but heres what ive got done

-Hydroboost and brakes all hooked up (re using my old baers before i can afford c6zs...)
-Unisteer rack in
-Computer mounted in place of glove box
-Gas tank all bolted up (the tanks inc kit did not make it easy)
-Pacesetter headers and modified the drivers side collector, and welded 3" reducers to the old exhaust
-afco universal radiator in
-remote oil filter mounted but interfered with radiator so it needs a new home

Things left:
-finish plumbing of fuel oil and power steering
-irs
-fab the crossmember or buy one
-finish up the gauges
-do the engine wiring
-fix everything i didnt realise i had broken along this series of mods

im starting to see the light!!!!

Tanks inc makes a tank for the 1st gens? I didn't see that on their website. Or did you use one of their universals?

I'm trying to figure out my tank situation for my 78 t/a with LS1. Not sure if I should work on modifying my existing tank or buy one. If the latter, which one. The only one I knew about was the rock valley and that's mucho $$, hence my curiosity about the tanks inc ....

well heres the problem, first off because of the angle and extremely shallow design of the first gens tank it is sitting at an angle which negates the bennifits of the the tray dealey. Also I hadnt realised that the top of the stock tank sits virtually flush with the trunk floor, so i had bad clearance problems, however solved it with some super heavy duty hosing filled with foam used as spacers, however it was very hard to get the straps to go back in, so as soon as i justify the money ill be getting a tank from ricks.

Well i finished up wiring up the motor today and it turns over!!!

Unfortunately i cant start it yet since it lacks an oil system or rad hoses, but very very soon.

aside from the irs which should be a royal pita it should otherwise be a walk in the park the rest of the way!

making more progress, after over 20 hours of scrubbing, 7 bottles of mag wheel cleaner, and 3 wire brushes the rear end is clean. When i got it you couldnt have known if it was even aluminum with how dirty it was!

I'm on spring break this week so there should be a lot of progress, and ill keep things up to date.
