Hey guys, I know everyone has been over this time and time again. I just talked to intro wheels, and he said I was crazy trying to get a 275 up front and a 315 out back. I told hime that there have been guys that have done it. I really like the intro pentia's but they only come in 18x10 and 18x9 up front. Who's wrong here. Am I honestly going to run into rubbing issues up front with a 275 tire. He recomended 255 up front and 305 out back being the max sizes. What do you guys think.

were you planing on minitubing the rear? 275's will probably limit the turning radius as they will hit the frame rails but i'm sure it has been done

I'm planning to do 275s & 315s also on my '69 chevelle.
I'm hoping I can get a 17 x 9.5" with 275/40/17s in front and 17 x.11" with 315/35/17s in rear (I may go 18" in the rear to get a taller tire - they don't make 17s as tall as I want).
I'm not sure what offsets I need yet, but Keith Anderson has this same combination on his '70 el camino with no issues (although he has B-spindles, so his turning radius is limited anyway)

I think you're getting some bad advice from Intro. 275's will easily fit on the front. I'm running 275/40/17's on 17x9 wheels w/5.25" backspacing and Air Ride. 1968-72 A-bodies are pretty much the same when it comes to rolling stock.
Here's a few suggestions if you want to stay with those Intro wheels. Order the 18x9 fronts with 5.5" backspace and those 18x10 rears with either 5.5" or 5.75". Run some 275/35/18's on the front and 295/35/18's on the rear. If you want to push things a little bit,you can run 315/30/18's on those 18x10's. It's not 100% optimum but it'll work fine on your streetcar.

Thanks clint, its what I needed to hear. As far as the 315 on the ten inch wheels, The guy from intro told me that the 10"wheel actually measures 11". But what would be the negative affects of putting the 315 on there as far as it is pushijng the limits!

All wheels measure 1" wider. For example, a 9" real is really 10", a 12" wheel is really 13", etc. The negative effects will be some sidewall bulge and decreased contact patch. All manufacturers recommend an 11" (advertised width, not actual width) or wider wheel for a 315 series tire. For a pro-touring car that will see high speeds, hard cornering loads, etc., it's probably in your best interest to go with an 11" wide wheel, or step down to a 305 or 295 on the 10" wheel.

Like Ralph mentioned, you would notice some side effects at the limits.
Unless you plan a lot of track time,a 10" wheel will work on a street car.
The problem you will run into is something you mentioned earlier (not wanting a short sidewall). A 315/30/18 is pretty short so that kinda rules it out. A 305/18 is available in either a 40 or 45 aspect ratio(I don't remember which) and that tire will have a taller sidewall.

Hey Clint, Have you experienced any rubbing with the car at normal ride height with the 275 tire, I'm guessing you think the 5.5 BS up front is better than your 5.25. As for tires, I'm now thinking 305/40/18 for the rear if anyone makes them besides the nitto drag radials, I would like to have a tire that will last me a little while:eek: , and 275/40/18 up front any tires you guys know of? thanks again for all your help

I had a little bit of rub until I swapped out the hex-headed inner fender bolts for some button heads. My knockoff hubs are 1/4" thicker so my front wheels actually spec out to 5" backspace. I plan to have them re-backspaced to 5.5" eventually which would allow me to drive the car at an even lower height than it is now(it's very low now).
A 275/40/18 tire is over 27" diameter. Why so tall a front tire, especially with Air Ride?

Yea I starting to think that a 35 series is good, as for the fenderwells, the engine compartment will be refinished with the rest of the car including custom inner fenders. I love the way troy trepanie (sp) designs his engine compartments along with the car, and I'm going to try an mimic that.

I Have A 1970 Camaro And Would Like To Put Some Sweet Wheels &tires On It But I Dont Want To Cut Anything. Maybe Trim The Rear Lip If Needed. I Would Like To Go With A 18'' Rim What Would Be A Good For That Car? I Want To Go Deep All The Way Round, Going To Run Tube A-arms Up Front. If Any One Could Help That Would Be Cool. Thanks Vinny
