Where is a good place to install some 6.5 inch round speakers in a 67 Camaro. I have 6x9's in the rear deck and am just trying to get some ideas where to put my 6.5's, will they fit in the kick panels, or maybe the lower front door panels... ideas?

With a 67 your vent window is your friend when it comes to speakers in the door. You can actually build an enclosure for speakers in the doors on a 67. Also it doesn't have to be in the lower part of the door either. You can put them about 1/3 up on the door to bring your front stage up. This is the only advantage with the vent windows. IMO
I have a 5 1/4 in mine right now and plan on putting a 6 1/2 in the doors in the future. Actually I would like to put a 6 1/2 mid bass driver, a 5 1/4 mid high and a tweet in each door.
I am not an audio pro but on my 67 we bought the speaker baffle boxes (for 9 bucks at crutchfield) for 6x9s and installed them in the hole behind the kick panel and did away with the drafty vents in the kick panel

ls67, I was thinking of doing the same thing, and was wondering how to protect the speakers since the vent area is open to the elements. Did you mount 6.5" round speakers in the 6x9 baffles? Or do you know where to get 6.5" round baffles?
Thanks,
I am installing the 6x9 in the kick panel area using the baffle boxes from crutchfield ( use the link below to see) I have the speakers but am still waiting on the baffels to get here but from what I can tell I may have to trim the hole just a bit to get the 6x9s and the baffle in the hole. I was going to lay up some baffle boxes out of fiberglass but then I found these at crutchfield. Like I said I havent recieved them yet, but when I get them I may even coat them with something if they dont look like they will stand up to the elements, but in their discription that is what they are for and to add base

Did you ever get these installed? I was about to get some baffles but am reading some bad reviews on Crutchfield site about how they sound.
Tom
I have not installed these yet but the rep at crutchfield told me it would work very well.. What did you read I guess I will go to crutfield and read it, where is it at on the site.

I just read the reviews and I am not to worried about it, these speakers will not be the main source for bass in my car and I will probably make a quarter sized hole in the bottom of the baffle and then fill it with a breathable material so it will be ported like a woffer enclosure.
Funny tho the manufacture says that they will improve bass but I can see where it might suck in and out with some hard thumping bass.
Like I said it is no big deal I will just port them to start with but thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the reply - I'm not really worried about the bass either since I will have a separate sub, but I was worried that they might muddy the sound since it's important to me that the mids and highs are clear.

i put marine 6x9's in the vent(kick panel)with out boxes, baffles or any other protection 2 yrs ago .no problems, sounds great.i used j clips(nuts) on the speakers and mounted them inside vent(behind panel) makes a clean install.not a daily driver so probably not getting subjected to bad elements? jerry

the only problem i see with that is the speaker will not be angled tword you..so you will lose some sound quality..you can buy kick panel pods that angle a 6 1/2 at you but you will lose some foot room on the sides..but would sound better

Do you have a source for these?
I still think I will be better off with the 6x9 three way speakers than a 6.5 inch I dont think you loose enough sound that it justifies having a pod in the way of your feet. I think a 6x9 tri-axiel speaker facing in will sound better than a 6.5 that is turned in. I went to the store and with the speakers turned on in the display I positioned myself in different positions and did not notice a difference I do however think it would make a dif. if they were turned 180 away.

This is what was done to Prodigy. Soon we will be offering complete ready panels with speaker pods in them

Another idea I could have used a year or so ago!!
The one thing I find with speakers in the kick panels is just that-they get kicked alot (size 13) and I've had to put the screen cover back on waaay too many times.
Pre fabbed panels in the door would be the ticket!!!!!!!
