4th gen door panels Q...not will it fit

I would like to use just the armrests from a trans am. The armrests arent actually removable its one panel, but I can cut it out and have it mounted to a custom panel. I will be using power door locks, so the door lock isnt to big of a deal. However, does anyone know how hard it would be to make the door handle work? Do they connect in a similar way to second gen camaro's? Or are the rods etc. entirely different.

This is on a 1974 Camaro.
