View Full Version : Best Setup & Cables for home computer/phone/electronics/video/audio

I am currently planning to upgrade the phone/cable wiring in my home, replacing all of the old stuff with new. I figure I can do most of the grunt work, my buddy does the installation for a living so it will not cost me much more than parts and accessories.

I am considering CAT6e cables, 1-2 in every room, as well as RG6 cables, also 1-2 in every room. Need to know what else I need for future expansion like audio and video stuff, or will the CAT6e handle all that too?

I will route a main feed to a box in my bedroom closet, then branch out from there to 6 rooms (3 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, and garage).

I will also setup a video surveillance system to view/record motion activity from all angles of the exterior, so would like to know what type of cable to use for that as well.

Any tips, advice, comments, or any other related replies are welcome. Thanks,
