Can you guys help me find a really really low profile air cleaner? the one I have now is probably around 3", drop base, and is still rubbing on my hood.

i know this doesnt help but any more low pro than that will probably drastically restrict airflow into the carb.

I know :pat: and trust me I'm not happy about it, but my options are slim...

I'm hoping that as the gasket sets up more it'll squish a little flatter.

What about trimming the mounting ring down around the bottom piece of the one i've got off? worth a shot?

I don't need much space...just a wee niggling bit.

how much room do you have? i went with a 1.5" x 11" with a filter top and no drop base (don't offer it in 11") as mine is tight as well.

this may be far fetched but could you have a broken motor mount? If the air cleaner doesnt hit the hood when you close it but it does when you drive the car you probably have a broken motor mount. My favorite way of telling is to start the car with the hood open, put the car in D and power brake a little, watch to see how much the engine lifts, if it lifts a bunch you have a broken motor mount.
The reason I say this is I am under the impression that you have run this combo before(after reading your intake gasket post) and had no problems, but this time the air cleaner is rubbing on the hood. I broke a motor mount and put an outie on my hood once...same symtoms

You could machine the top of your manifold down a bit.

Formula, how much is the drop base? www.ramairbox.com does sell different drop bases (airhorn) so you might keep the 3 inch filter element.

Like it or hate it. It's the original and it works. I'm running low 12s in the quarter mile on this setup.
