I have 68 Camaro and have a chance to buy a LT4 383 that was built for a Corvete but the buyer back out now I can pick it up for a good price. The specs I have on the motor are:
Bore = 4.030
Stroke=3.750
Rod Length=5.850
Lunati Crank & Rods 4350
Forged JE Pistons
Molly ring
Milidon Windage Tray
Milidon Oil Pan
ARP main studs
227cc Air Flow Research Heads CNC Ported and Hand Finished
Intake Vales=2.100
Exhaust Valves=1.600
Crane Cam Hyd. Roller 244 duration @ .050/.550 lift
Crane roller rockers
GM intake manifold
MSD Distributor
Does anyone have a guess about how much horsepower this combination should make and what kind of problems I am going to run into puting a Corvette motor in a 68 camaro? I dont have a clue any help would be great.

425-475 hp.it's a nice piece.good heads,i would want more cam but very nice.
yeah that thing should put down a well over 400 to the wheels through a manual. awsome torque curve too. those heads are sweet. are you sure they are 227s? those require specific rocker arms. shaft style only i believe.
as for getting it into the car, its a SBC all the same. the motor mounts fit right onto the LT4 and it drops right into the bay. a th350 will even bolt up to it. just keep in mind that the LT4 is a one peice rear main seal motor, just like all 86? or 87 and newer SBC engines. hardest part will be getting radiator hoses to fit and the wiring. you can run the engine without a MAF but it will have to be tuned that way or you can hook up the MAF. either way works perfectly fine.
there are a number of companies out there that make different accessories brackets so you can get everything in there. im honestly not sure if any frame notching will need to be done like putting an LS motor into many older cars. im betting corvette brackets will work, but i cant say for sure.

Ought to run awesome, will it have injection or a Carb? One issue could be the pan fitting the crossmember if you are using a stock subframe. SS

a F.A.S.T fuel system will solve all the efi needs.i think they even make a harness.fuel system will need electric pump,return line to tank.will fit rite in no special headers or anything,the radiator is no problem measure the stock and order a new one with lt1 hook ups.

Thanks for all the feedback. The last muscle car I owned was my first car in 1978 and it was a 69 Charger. A lot of things have changed since then and I am trying to learn. Motor already has a carb. intake manifold on it so I was thinking about bolting Demon Carb. on for now and maybe looking at EFI later. Rocketman, I will look in to the F.A.S.T. fuel system.
WS6, I think they are 227s I pulled the head off and measured the intake and exhaust valves (2.100 and 1.600) and I think the 227cc are the only LT4 AFR heads. They do have Crane gold roller rockers on them but not shaft style. I guess I should give AFR a call to see if this is going to be a problem. WS6 heres my next stupid question what does MAF stand for....
No, the 227s are not the only LT4 AFR heads. there are also the 210s and i think they make the 190s in LT4 style as well. check AFRs website. it might give you more info on how to tell. the 227 refers to the intake runner volume of the head. im betting they are 210s as that is really all you need for a street motor. especially if they are then hand ported.
MAF stands for Mass Air Flow meter. it measures the amount of air coming into the engine. that way the computer will know how much fuel and spark to give the engine. its just this electrical coupler that sits out front the engine with the intake tubing. on older cars or swaps it may not be easy to find a place to mount the MAF or it may not look right. therefore you can leave it off and not have the wires running out there to it either. if you do that the engine will then be running on SD or speed density. this uses MAP to tune the engine. MAP is manifold absolute pressure. GM was using SD from 90-93 because they were pissed at Bosch, the company making the MAFs for GM. GM didnt want to pay Boschs asking price so they said screw you we dont need you anyhow. so they made all the cars run in SD. it works perfectly fine so long as the tuner knows how to tune in SD.
the FAST system is great but for the asking price you can run a factory computer and parts and come out way less. if youve got the time you can cut and modify the factory harness to fit your needs. if not i believe Painless wiring has a harness they can sell you. running it carbed is also perfectly fine.
