Hi.

I was looking on Ebaymotors.com and found a lot of used Nascar brake kits. I would like to know if anyone here have bought a set of nascar brakes for use on their car? if so, how did you solve the mounting? did you make your own custom mounting brackets? What is the largest diameter rotor if using 15" rims? I mean, nascar uses 15" wheels so they should fit right?

Any help would be appreciated

Have you looked into pad compound availability? NASCAR brakes are awesome, but they won't be much use if you have to do a couple of 150-0 stops to heat up the pads.

No I have not looked into that. But that would be a later problem :-) first of all I want to know how much work it would be to make it all work.
I have searched for other hubs for my camaro but really I don't know what to look for. now there is just this huge "pin" out of the spindle. and the wheel lugs are press fitted in the original rotors. All the Nascar brakes I have found have rotors with hats and no lugs.

Don't know where to start :-)

would these fit? or should I buy complete spindles from a Nascar car?

how big are they? they use a different set for longer faster tracks and short tracks. the sets for the really fast big tracks where they don’t use the brakes as much aren’t a heavy duty.

You are looking into opening a big fat can of "Oh ****, what have I done"; a project like this will snowball out of control before you even get half of the parts together. Here is a brief rundown of what is going on; you want NASCAR brakes but they require NASCAR hubs, so you need NASCAR spindles but they require big ball joints which require new upper arms for a circle track car and then there is the whole large hub register for the wheels to contend with so only NASCAR style wheels will fit the hubs. You also need to remember that none of these parts are available anywhere but for circle track supply centers; no local part store will have access to any of this stuff. The bearings and seals are fairly expensive compared to OE stuff and the steering linkage is going to need to modified as NASCAR type spindles don’t use tapered linkage mounts. Are you getting the idea that this can be a much bigger project than just throwing some parts at it? I’m not trying to discourage you. Just letting you se the bigger picture, it might be cheaper to just buy a ready to go kit than attempt this feat.

BTW, the geometry is totally different so you will need to start from scratch there too.

you might be able to get away with using the hats and rotors (2 piece) if you measured your offset correctly, you would definately have to come up with your own mounting brackets and which calipers would be another ?. there are other options that would work better and you could at least get answers to your tech questions from others that have used the same or similar setup.

Ok, well I have been looking for a front disc system, that is BIG, not so much the rotors but the calipers. I don't like the tiny wilwood systems available for my car. You guys with first gen camaros have it a lot easier with more to choose from.

I guss that I might be able to just use the nascar calipers and not the rotors. and make my own brackets. I just thought that someone here would have at least used nascar calipers since they are way cheap on ebay

Have you looked into this company?

With these hubs, you could then build a system with C5 parts from ebay if desired, and it would be a lot easier to get replacement parts at the local dealership etc. Just a thought...

Yeah they look good, the kore3 hubs. But the problem is that I don't want bigger wheels. I want my 15" centerline wheels to fit over the brakes. I would like to get some Nascar rims and slicks for my car in the future, so I don't want the big brakes, just want GREAT breakes in a smaller package :D
