Found this site while snooping around the internet, Uncle built his 69 camaro a couple of years ago now. Nice to see a site that is all about this sort of build (Touring etc). Anyway's like I said I live vicariously through my uncle's car since I was there when he took delivery and through the whole buildup. He still drives the car all the time, mostly on DE day's. He's recently bought a couple of Chevelles, one with a 572 crate motor and a original SS.
Cheers
Lee

Welcome to the site, Lee. I'm pretty sure I've seen pics of your uncle's Camaro posted before - any detail shots you can provide would be pretty cool.

I have some pictures of that camaro that I took at Laguna seca when the ferrarri club was running up there...AWESOME. That was by far the coolest car there, followed by the supercharged Z06 and the Lamborghini murcielago. I didnt get a chance to talk to your uncle though....The car looks great

That was the first time that he drove the car on the track, unfortunately he can't run their anymore because of the noise restrictions. Car is at 107db when your babying it.
Where you driving during the Ferrari track day, or were you there just checking out the cars?
He's got a new ZO6 coming this month that will go to Busby Motorsports for some weight reduction, suspension and some motor tweaking. He wants a car that he can drive at laguna and not get kicked off everytime.
The camaro is a beast though, I've been in it at Thunderhill coming out onto the front straight and passing a new viper like it was a Yugo. Car is extremely fast and handles awesome.

yeah no kidding that thing is loud...WOW. I didnt get to run that day. I was with a group of people, some of them ran. We had a honda s2000, the lamborghini, a Blue Z06 and a Supercharged Mini. The Lambo and the Z06 ran. We didnt really plan to run so it was cool that any of us got on the track. That was a fun couple of days...on the way home(was San Diego then) we had a little too much fun, 140mph in a 55 zone passing a motorcycle that was doing 110...YIKES, and a ticket for 99 even though we were going 112. Crazy but fun

I remember hearing about the SC ZO6, cousin said it was fast as hell down the front straight. And the SC whine was pretty loud also.
The ferrari day's can be fun there, but I would have to say 50% of the Ferrari guy's are alittle stuck up. Unlce is a member because at the time he had a F40, 288 GTO and 550. I was able to run with the Ferrari Club with my 300HP Supercharged VR6 Golf, I surprised quite a few of them. Nothing like walking away from a 355 down the front straight in my GTI. Car was a total sleeper, no body kit just stock rims with R compounds and full suspension work.

I think I have a video or a picture of the camaro coming down the corkscrew. I will try to find it later. I have a bunch of pictures and video from that day. The SC Z06 was awesome. I have never heard a car like that running all out before. As it came down the straight it went weeeeEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRROOOOOOAaaaaaarrr. The sound switched from supercharger scream to exhaust roar as it passed...mmm...tasty

Lee,
Welcome to the site! Your a very very lucky man. That 69 Camaro is absolutely awesome. There were several discussions about it a long time ago on this site. Your uncle built a killer machine! Thanks for posting the other pics of it and the video. I have only seen a couple pics of that car from the Popular hot rodding magazine and one that floats around the internet. Thanks again and if you have more please post them!! :twothumbs
Your uncles other rides are very nice too.

I hosted the 2 videos of that 69 Camaro on my site but they are just huge. :) The bad part is they are in .avi format and my site doesnt seem to like that. Later I will save them at home as .wmv or .mpg format to crop them down. If you can ever save a file as .wmv or .mpg thats the way to go.
I will get them hosted later in the week.

Dang I was able to get the video from 63mb down to 2mb. WOW now thats an incredible difference and thats why I make all my videos in Media player format instead of Real One player avi files. No comparison at all.
The video of the Camaro going down the corkscrew is expired. Please host it again thru usendit.com and I will get it up later.
Here is the 69 Camaro going thru one of the turns at Laguna Seca followed by a NSX and a 67-69 Cobra. I estimate it is turn 2 or 3. :)

Welcome the the board!! I have been in love with this car since I saw it in PHR last year. What are the dates for the next track day, I would love to come take some pictures and shoot some video. Sears Pt or Thunderhill. Does he plan to compete in the Z2Z Big Red Challange?

It's just a regular epoxy coating, I know he wasn't happy with it because they rolled it on and he wanted them to squeegee(Spelt?) it on so it was smooth with out any roller marks. It held up fine though, very strong.

I will find out his next track day at thunderhill or Sears and let you know. I don't know anything about the Z2Z Bib Red Challenge, can you give me some more info so that I can pass it in on to him? I know that Hot Rod wants to do a shootout with my uncles car and Gordon's Nascar road course car at one of the california track. They contacted him awhile back asking him if he would enter his car.

Please let me know, I missed the NSA event at Sears Pt this weekend but heard there were two 1st gen F-bodies out there. As much as I hate to say it, Jeffery is a very good road racer so your Uncle better bring his A game. Found results and format from last years Z2Z for you.
The Z2Z "Big Red" Challenge
Presented by
Baer Brake Systems
In conjunction with
The Silver State Classic Challenge Inc.
May 14th, 2005 Ely, Nevada
Six competitors vied on Saturday, May 14th for the opportunity to be the first winner of the "Z2Z Challenge" in Ely, Nevada.
Sponsored by Baer Brake Systems & Bryson-Dwyer Communications, the challenge is to see who can produce the lowest ET for a standing start to 200-mph and back to zero (Z2Z). The acceleration distance was limited to one-mile, with an additional 7/10ths of a mile allotted for stopping.
The top 2 competitors were RJ Gottlieb's "Big Red" Camaro and Jerry Mall's K&N supercharged Viper GTS. There is no official winner as nobody was able to break 200 mph within the mile limit. However, "Big Red" had the best overall time of 41.0 seconds at 179 mph, while the K&N Viper had the highest top speed at 181 mph with an overall time of 46.4 seconds.
Zero to 200-mph in any distance is a tall order, but limit the distance to 5,280 feet and then add in 6,500 of elevation above sea level and you are talking a magnitude of difficulty. Barometric conditions further raised the effective air density to that normally witnessed at over 7,600 feet. The conditions reduced horsepower an estimated 15%.
Later that day, after making a gear change, Big Red was able to achieve 186 mph in the "Flying Mile" (a standing start, 1-mile run for top speed). A lot was learned in these events and next year Big Red will be back to break the 200 mph barrier!
