For those of you who swapped a 4th Gen dash in your 1st Gen....

Is anyone using AC and Heat? If so are you using Vintage Air or the factory 4th gen components?

Looking to convert to Late model dash but I want to run AC.

Thanks,
Patrick

you need to contact camaroboy..i know he has done this in his car and a friends car but i am not sure if he used the air..i would say the vintage air unit with their aftermarket controller....you may have to cut the dash or you may can use the stock 4th gen controls....

Yeah, I am hoping Adam or someone with experience with this swap will chime in.

I have the heater hooked up to a separate switch. So far I dont have AC. I will eventually figure a way to make it work with the 4th gen controls.
Teddy will be running vintage air in his car so im not sure what he is going to do for his switches yet. Teddy (teddys camaro) is the person I installed the other 4th gen dash into.

I am interested too. I just bought the 4th gen dash and my 69 has factory air...its a non-working factory air, but its there. I want to be cool in the summer to come.

Is there enough room behind the 4th Gen dash to mount a Vintage Air box or can you use the 4th Gen evaporator and heater core?

Seems like I remember someone telling me that you can use parts from a 3rd gen on your 1st gen. Hell I guess a little from each year and we can make anything work.

Very curious about this as well as I am looking to have all LSx stuff such as motor/trans, ABS brake system, HVAC system, etc...

just a note of imformation on the 4th gen set up. The AC componets extend about 1 1/2 -2 ft into the engine bay through a roughly 18x20 inch hole in the stock configuration.

Oh this reminded me. I was at Teddys house saturday and he has the 4th gen dash in his 70 Camaro. He also has the Vintage air set up he will be installing. It will EASILY fit behind the 4th gen dash. Plenty of room. I think you could easily store a dead or alive body behind where the dash is.

I'm wondering about putting a 4th gen system in my 70 Chevelle behind a stock dash. Will it fit??

Camaroboy - any pictures of the 4th gen dash in the '70? Considering putting the 2001 dash in my '73, but I have no clue as to where to start. What did you do to fill the gaps/depressionns on the dash where the 4th gen a-pillar went? How does it fit overall? :pics2:
