How do the search engines do what they do? I have a friend that I am trying to help him with his website. How do the google bots work? Basically I am trying to get his site recognized better by search engines.

Here is his site

Rhino Guitars (http://www.rhinoguitars.com/)

I also read that the more the site is linked to other sites the more likely the bots will notice it. From google "The best way to ensure that Google finds your site is to have pages on other relevant sites to link to yours. Google's robots jump from page to page on the web via hyperlinks, so the more sites that link to your pages, the more likely it is that we'll find them quickly."

its all about links back to his site. the more links there are on other sites leading to your friends site, the higher the page rank will be.

They have to be relevant links though you cant link it to sites that really dont make sense when your looking at guitars or something. They have web crawlers and the more hits it gets with the webcrawlers on relevant links the higher the rankings. Also the keywords that are written into the website help out also.
