Okay guys, looks like this coming winter we are going to repaint the 55.

Dad bought some red paint, urathane. Bright red, just a shade on the dark side.

I am trying to figure out what to do to make it pop.

He said he wants "eye burning' red.

What to do? I was thinking of maybe spraying it over a candy base, or what?

SOme people have said to spray it over a yellow base. Others have said silver, still others say gold.

I have plenty of Copper Penny Pearl left over from my Iroc.

What do you guys do to give red that extra pop?

I believe I can tell you what you will get with a gold base. The last time I was at the paint shop, I took the red candy translucent paint sample from Alsa and set ir over the gold base paint sample. It added more depth to the paint, but it wasn't eye burning. I truely believe that up close and personal, House of Kolors Blue Blood Red is second to none...

Thanks. Any idea, what base would make a red more vibrant? He already bough the paint, mainly cause it was a discounted can the store was no longer carrying the brand, it was only 40 bucks.

You want to go over a white or yellow base. A silver base will darken it over white. I would make sample cards and shoot the red over different bases so you can see the different effects.

I agree with the white or silver base. I've sprayed red over both to make it "pop". Never sprayed over yellow though.
