Trying to make a decision on coil springs for QA1 coil over kit (gmp14/13). Choice is between SBC (250/350 LBS) or BBC (365/465 lbs) . Car is a 1968 Firebird with 400 Pontiac engine/TH400.

Well, I went with the BBC springs for my SB with iron heads. The ride is firm but not harsh.
Hope this helps some.

Marcus, from scandc talks about some spring he sell's that are not progressive and better than the stock QA1 springs. Hopefully he will chime in.

Dean,

Are you satisfied with the QA1 set-up?

Did the BB springs make your ride height too high or can you adjust it to get it as low as you need it?

I started out with the exact same setup. The 250/350 lowered my front end way too low for my 235/60-15 wheel and tire setup. I had to run the spanner nut up to the point of coil bind just to get a little ride height. I'm not talkin 4x4 looks, the wheel lip was at 25".....spindle center to wheel lip was 12 3/4". That was no good so I got the 365/465 coils. Pretty stiff right now. Only had to run the spanner nut up a little bit to get the height I needed. Soon as I get the rear lowered down a couple of inches I will take the front down more. Hopefully it will soften them up a bit.

I'm running a 235/60/15 setup on my SB iron head 68 Camaro.

I'm thinking of using the BB QA1 GMP13 but am afraid it will ride like a truck.

I also want to have about 26" to 27" from the floor to fender lip on the front but think the BB QA1 might not go that low on a SB.

Any thoughts?

Well, I'm at 25" right now from floor to wheel lip on a 72 Nova. Same tire and wheel size as you mentioned, also a iron head sbc. I can go lower or higher easily. Ride is pretty stiff right now. It is stiff enough that you cannot push the bumper down and get the suspension working easily, not sure if you should be able to, but on the old cars I remember the suspension working easily when I pushed down on the bumper. I would like to compare a set of nice coils and quality shocks to what I have right now. Drove the car for a couple hundred miles at the end of summer and it rode fine, felt stiff but really handled light years ahead of the old worn suspension.
