Ok, so I am building a 51 Chevy pick up with a sbc and Chevrolet's Ramjet fuel injection. It has been recommended to me to get away from the Chevy harness and closed computer and instead run something along the lines of the Holley Terminator X computer/harness.

The other day I was talking to a local shop that does wiring/tuning on these cars and asked his advice. He also recommended the Terminator X computer, but rather than using the Holley harness, he suggested using another brand (didn't catch the name) harness that can be built to length. His reasoning was that the Holley harness is unusually long and this one can be terminated and routed as desired. He also mentioned that Holley has a significant issue with incorrect pinning, so by doing it his way, it would be guaranteed to be wired/pinned perfectly.

Any thoughts on this please chime in. What have you all done? Are you just using the Holley harness and coiling up the excess under the dash? Did you use a different brand harness, and if so what one?

Thanks,

Glenn

The MEFI4 controller that comes with the RamJets is archaic, so you are on the right track getting rid of it.

The mispinned holley harness thing is overblown but it does happen. I have done more than most and have never had that issue. Length being too long is application dependent, I have had them too short. Nothing wrong with coiling it up or you can buy the ECU pins and shorten as needed. That is my preferred method.

When I have looked in the past, the issue I have with the unterminated harness is that the ECU side is already terminated. I find it easer to pull all the branches into one trunk instead of going the other way.

It really comes down to your comfort level with the work. If you have never done something like this, modifying one that exists is way easier than doing it from scratch.

Use the Holley computer and get the Harness from BP Automotive. They build Holley LS harnesses for their Terminator systems, I'm sure they can help you out.
