Anyone know how? I'd like to find my first car, which I have the pre-1981 VIN for but so far, no luck. Does anyone have an avenue for finding where that car is or who owns it? I tried looking on the internet but all I'm finding is what came on the car or "INVALID VIN" because even places that say they can look pre-81 give errors when you actually try to search. I won't mind paying a site for it, provided said site will actually provide what I'm looking for. I've even thought about asking a cop to check but I seriously doubt I'd have any luck there due to privacy concerns. Not holding my breath that the car's still out there though, last time I saw it was 1988 when I left for the Army.

It's an interesting task, but probably not a doable one.
Maybe you could try going through the state's DMV.

Honestly just time and continued Google searches. Post pics and details on forums, post up on Lost Muscle cars on Faceplant.
Most imprortantly, be patient.
It took me 8 years to track down the 55 Chevy Belair that I built with my dad when I was in high school. Started posting pics and details everywhere. In 2015 after nearly 8 years my phone rang with someone who had recently bought the car and stumbled onto my searches and posts. One week later I flew to Florida and bought it back. It will never leave me now.
Also, back in 2005 my dad owned a 2 door 1956 Ford Ranch wagon. I have always wondered what happened to it. So every once in a while I will do a Google search, and also a Google Image search. Last week I found a picture someone had posted back in 2017 of what looked like the car. I sent them a message, turns out it belongs to the guys wife and all the details lined up. We have now sent each other pictures and particulars. It IS the car. She doesn't want to sell and I'm good with that, its cool just to have found it and know it is loved and cared for.

Thanks. I've done all that but the Farcebook one. Never been there, never will be. I am thinking about stopping off at the police department where I lived back then to see if they'd check, but I'm worried that they might run me in for... something. :6gears:

If I remember right we have asked the state to do vin checks we asked at the court house where we get and pay for tags, t.v. his is small town Texas so it might be different where you live.
