Hey Everyone,

I have a 67 Camaro with an LS3 (@blueshift_camaro on IG) and I was chasing an issue where it wouldn’t rev past 4000 at WOT. I finally narrowed it down the to the fuel pressure dropping to 19psi at WOT. I pulled the tank and aeromotive’s yellow tank foam had completely disintegrated and clogged my fuel system with yellow “sand”. Long story short, they gave in and sent me a service kit with a new foam insert for free but, I have to say, I am not excited about putting it back in. I understand that it keeps the fuel from sloshing and the pump from cavitation or losing prime under hard acceleration with a low tank but I am really not liking the fact that I might have to do this again someday.

Has anyone left the foam out of their tank? I’m wondering how it worked out. I have the stock style 340 stealth tank kit so there is no baffling in the tank. I run 91 pump gas and am in Phx, AZ.

thanks in advance for any info!

Bill

Extremely common occurrence. Especially if your local gas supply is e10.
Wiffle balls can be used instead, they are a bit more resistant to breakdown.

Can you expand on that? I am trying to get my head around what to do with a whiffle ball.

People fill their fuel cells with wiffle balls to prevent slosh, similar but different application.

I have pulled them apart to swap a pump and left the foam out. It's not ideal but neither is removing and cleaning your fuel system and part of a maintenance routine.

Holley Hydramat is supposed to work on losing fueling when the tank is low. Supposedly, as long as fuel touches the sock anywhere it'll let the pump draw it in, and they come in pretty large sizes so most of the tank bottom would be covered.

A lower tech alternative would be to adjust the fuel float so that when the gauge shows empty, you still have several gallons to go. It'll mean more fuel stops and carrying more weight, but less chance of going low enough for fuel starvation issues.

what kind of time frame did this happen in?
